I've never been impressed or motivated to purchase one of these just because it had a Early Discovery, First Day Release, First Release or First Discovery label. Is there really any added value or just a marketing ploy?

"Discovery" pieces have some extra value. In my opinion "First Day Of Issue" or "First Day Of Mintage" are kinda cool but only for a minimal premium. The rest don't have any extra value IMO.
Don't know if any added value in reality but I see the dealers/sellers sure ask more for them.
