I hope you follow the link and read it if you haven't seen it already. It's about the ridiculous state of the non-calls by NFL Refs and how it's designed to assist the offense. It really bears on many, many things we discuss here pertaining to how the game has changed and cross-generational comparisons of players.
In a nutshell it isn't your father's NFL. Please comment if you will.

I mean, respect to those guys, it’s a hard job, but hell, we have a hard job as well. You can’t make it harder by throwing holding and hands to the face out the rulebook. And like I said, I got a lot of respect for those guys, but we get scrutinized for the plays that we don’t make. So someone has to hold them accountable for the plays or the calls they don’t make. And they need to be under the same kind of microscope as we are every single play.

It doesnt seem like too long ago that people were complaining that too many penalties were being called. Now it's not enough?

Probably a suspension. Gambling and game fixing is the one thing they dont mess around with or tolerate at all
