The Transition 7070 Dansco 1965 Coin Album

Many here, me included enjoy putting together sets of coins. Perhaps we love having an order to our collection and the ability to quickly see at a glance what we have and further, what we need to complete the set(s).
Dansco has been popular since the Continental Line of United States Type set albums existed in the 1950s.
Here is a rare- some state even scarcer than the Continental Line- Dansco type set album, distinguished from later editions by its cover and back inside cover.

1965 was a transition year for Dansco as the Continental Line of albums faded into what would be the new Dansco line. Very few albums were printed in 1965 and even fewer still exist today.
The 7070 U.S. Type set album of 1965 had a brighter cover and the back cover identifiers were in gold leaf. That would immediately change in 1966 with black ink for the company name and address.
The paper used with the slides is also of an unusual texture.

    Indeed! Very Cool!

Thanks for sharing. Are there any coins that were in that version that are not in the newer versions?

Other than the lack of the Ike dollar.
There are some slight variations as shown in these photos:
(The movement/placement of the VDB cent, for example.)

I find the "1921 - " on the Peace Dollar spot very interesting.

And as I am a strict rules follower, the Peace dollar contained within is a 1921.

I noticed, good choice. Since the " - " indicates a continuing series, you have one of the few existing 7070's where a 2021 or 2023 would be appropriate for the slot.

I wonder, since this album was produced around the time they were being considered, if they did that to make it possible to include a 1964 Peace Dollar.

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

That would be a fun (yet probably exhausting) topic to research!

It is quite possible they were anticipating a resumption in Peace Dollar coinage. Part of the reasoning for the cancellation of the 1964 coinage was the speculation on the then-yet-to-be-available new pieces. Perhaps this album was produced in the window between the announcement of mintage and later cancellation.
