There must be a numismatic term for this…

The feeling when the major auctions post which you have been anxiously awaiting and there is nothing for you, yet the relief that you feel that don't have to spend money on a coin you must have for your collection.
I’m sure the Japanese have this figured out already.

How about (numismatically related) cognitive dissonance? 😉

I've felt that relief as well lately after having made the largest coin purchase of my lifetime. To me, not seeing a coin I need right now is like not being called out to wrestle in gym class.
Anticippointment or Disrelief.
Numismeh?
30+ years coin shop experience (ret.) Coins, bullion, currency, scrap & interesting folks. Loved every minute!
I have this feeling as well when a dealer's early bird email comes out with new pieces. The anxiety relief is almost as good as Paxil.![:D :D](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)

Economic numisdisrelief
Meh. I just bid anyway
I can make up a German word for it: Trostpreisgewinnungserleichterung -- being relieved by winning a consolation prize.

I am guessing you meant the SB NYINC auction? There is a coin on my want list there but it is a couple grades higher than my target budget will allow so I had that same sense of relief
Now it's just a matter of time until my absurd lowball gets overtaken ![:D :D](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
I’ll guess that he’s referring to the disappointing heritage FUN auction.
"Over budget for the year, and no temptation here."
Ha I was going to say there has to be some sort of compound German word that works![;) ;)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Conflicted obsession I must feed the monster but I really should not type situation.

The question is now whether a native German speaker would be able to make sense of what it is meant to mean, or if I just put together a bunch of nonsense. There are other scenarios where it would be a useful word, for example if the big door prize for an event was tickets for two to Cats and the consolation prize was, well, not winning two tickets to Cats.

Good to read that your Country Club membership remains intact... (just kidding)
I would rather buy coins and have a story and an excuse that passes the straight face as to why my golf game exists mostly in the weeds.

No country club for me. Kids, travel, coins, stocks.
What’s the German word for disappointed relief? enttäuschte Erleichterung… doesn’t roll off the tongue.

nocoinomics-
definition - the feeling as well as the economic/financial consequences of no coin purchases.
I'm not holding my breath that it will appear in Webster's in my lifetime...
