AG+? I hate going first!
Wholesome as a bowl of oatmeal 👍
You already know my comments 👍
Love the type of variety and as jayPem so eloquently stated congrads
Looks like a handsome ‘good’ to me.
I believe the central weakness on the reverse is pretty typical for the date.
30+ years coin shop experience (ret.) Coins, bullion, currency, scrap & interesting folks. Loved every minute!
Nice color, looks original with fairly nice surface quality. I think she straight graded at G-4 It's the 1 above one, nice pickup!
ok,ag 3, jmo
I like it. At least a Good and wouldn't bat an eye at in a VG holder. It does have some digs or something in the obverse field at K8-9, but I like the color overall...
Looks like a nice original coin. I'll guess G6.
VG8, nice surfaces
G6
Yuck / Definitely AG - pass. Below my minimum investment grade anyway. Too much wear……
A pretty "1 above 1" variety. Light brown patina on even surfaces. Small lamination or contact mark behind bust - not distracting.
F12, net VG10 would be my grade.
Thanks for your thoughts and comments. I've been looking for the Type as an addition to my Box of 20 for some time. Most are details coins (at least the ones I can afford!) and many have environmental damage or corrosion to some degree. My goal was to find one with decent surfaces and decent color; enough "meat" left on the coin to tell what it is; and at a somewhat affordable price. Here are the seller's other pics. I bought this largely based on Tom's card. He likely netted it down due to the planchet flaw (NOT a scratch... IMHO) but I'll be able to tell once I have coin in hand. I'm not seeing anything else that looks like a scratch... Edited to add: maybe the hit just left of Liberty's cap in the denticles?

Nice specimen, despite the old toned over scratch. ( I am thinking you'll conclude it is a scratch after in hand inspection under glass.)
Interesting to see Tom's assessment, as it truly shows what an amatuer I am at this. I had a feeling almost immediately after posting my "guess" at G-4 that the condition warranted a higher grade; however, I never considered that it wouldn't straight grade.
The PCGS grade looks accurate to me. Being a 1797 Half Cent there is going to be a strong market for it regardless of the old scratch. We are not talking about an 1881-S Morgan Dollar here.
I truly like it as a VG. A long time ago I decided that for me to be able to enjoy my collection of Half Cents that was affordable to me, I would have to accept minimal damage as a prerequisite for a 200+ year old copper coin. After collecting my large cents many, maybe most with dates barely legible, I did not wish my half cents to be such. Now the half cent collection has all readable dates and many well struck, yet with some evidence of misuse or damage. Such as it is for someone with my Iove of the hobby, but less available funds to spend procuring it.
Great coin. Would love it.

Well stated, and I completely concur.
I like it at the grade/details designation PCGS has assigned. A nice example of a very cool variety-
