Canadian Half Dollar: Cleaned or Not?

Collector of Victoria, Edward VII, George V and George VI Canadian; and most anything U.S. I am currently looking for early Lincolns, raw in XF or better.

Hard to tell from that photo. Can you show both sides and crop to enlarge.

From what I can tell from supplied photos, it does not look cleaned.

    High quality pics for 1998.

The COLOR looks decent, but can not tell at all about hairlines, etc. Maybe some residue in some protected areas on the obverse?? (though might just be pixelization of the photo).

The white in the ear and around the crown is suspicious.
It could be something on the surface that might be removed with a dip in acetone.

It could also be an artifact of the coin being exposed to heat at some point - therefore not a surface "gunk" issue.

It would be an album coin I'd buy i
if I was collecting the series and the price was right.

I think that much clearer pictures would be required to see exactly what that white is.
Right now they are too out of focus and too small to see any detail. It is possible that
it is just a reflection like that on the top of he crown and under the chin.

I do not think you can be sure on cleaning from a pic unless it is harshly cleaned ... you need a loupe and light
