Something you do not see everyday

I was at my local shop today. My dealer had a group of Liberty Nickels to look through for varieties. In one roll of well circulated coins, there were 4 shield nickels at the top. So, I looked at these as well. There was a nice, well circulated 1877 in the group.

For those who do not know, this is a proof only coin with a mintage of 510 pieces. (That is from coin facts, others say up to a 1000 or so).

What happened? Tell me about the glands.

    Late 90's movie reference.....

Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.
