Tracked Whizzed 1813 Bust Half Now on Ebay. Beware!

I viewed this coin at a dealer's table at the 2023 TNA show. It was previously cracked by the dealer, and placed in his case showcase raw as problem-free. At first glance, the coin appears to be around the slider Unc grade. Upon close inspection, the coin has been without a doubt whizzed, AU Details.

The coin was purchased by someone raw, certified as PCGS AU Detail Surfaces Smoothed, and consigned to Great Collections. The coin was purchased from Great Collections, cracked once again, and listed on Ebay under Denver Coins Co, former Canyon City Coin.

Buyer beware, this coin is not from an "ORIGINAL COLLECTION" :D The seller, if you did not already know, cracks problem coins, photoshops his images, and lists the problem coins on Ebay. I wish justice could be served for scumbags like this seller.

Win it and SNAD. Play the game within the confines of the rules and frustrate the seller into honesty or something closer to the same than what they're doing now. ;)

Not that there is a solid chain of custody after the GC sale, but @ianrussell might want to be aware of this in case a pattern occurs. Would it be possible to deny sales to a customer who is confirmed to buy problem coins, crack them out and sell as problem-free? They'd probably just make a new account anyway.

From conclusion of the GC sale on 11/26, shipping, and listing on Ebay 12/3, I think it is almost certain that Denver Coins purchased it from GC.

It's not toned, they just edit their photos.

As reprehensible as Canyon/Denver is, at least they are widely known for being extraordinarily unethical. Who is this dealer who initiated the downhill rolling ball of excrement?

If one generally sells to folks who don't know what they are doing (or don't know well enough what they are doing) then maintaining 100% ebay feedback is not that difficult a task.

And sadly, all-too-many bad sellers have managed to maintain 100% feedback.

    @habaraca

So similar to the old oven heated/pan fried coin toning, apply just enough heat to effect the surface & tone?

I would rather not say. Besides this one incident, he has proven himself a good reputation.

They offer returns for unhappy customers in which the negative feedback gets eliminated.

This 1813 sold on Ebay for $1,534.98! Someone got toasted. I am sure we will see more of this coin in the future.

    Ouch.

Every coin is looking for its rightful owner.... despite the unrighteousness . Happy collecting. Great sleuthing.

The pcgs coin seems to have a much stronger clash under the bust than the one sold on eBay...in my view.

Look at the small dent adjacent to the first star, on the rim.

Where shown, the rim gouges on both two sides to the coin are identical. Also the fingerprints on the reverse are identical. The clash mark potential differences are a function of the photography for each pair of images.

I bought a slab from this seller. The slab was cracked and not in the description. Also the coin looked a hell of a lot better in the auction.
The trick for these douchebags is that once a refund is given you can't leave feedback. Otherwise this guy wouldn't be able to give coins away.

    From an

I have seen these auctions and been close to pulling the trigger, BUT..... They just seem TOO darn good at those prices. MUST be something wrong. Thanks for outing them. I'll take ALL their coins off my watch list and never look back/at their coins again! Thanks for the bust, pun intended! Ray

Denver coins co is at it again. This time cracking a CACG QC coin. Interesting 🤔

Clearly the same coin. See scratch S8 to dentils. Weak strike in Scroll makes “UR” and part of “I” in Pluribus unreadable.

They also relisted the whizzed 1813 yesterday, already at nearly $600😐
