So a friend asked me to look through an old tin of her late father’s coins housed in an old Genesee Brewery Iron Horse tin. Here’s some of the silver found for her.

It warms my heart! Make sure you look for errors and varieties. I love the smell of silver in the morning! 👍

Most likely all common dates but you should at least check the mint marks on the dollars to see. $25 face in silver x 20 = approximately $500 in value. Sure would help at Christmas time with our faltering economy and inflation.![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
bob
vegas, baby!
It is unusual to see that many 1934 dated Peace Dollars in a small hoard like that.
Maybe his birth year?
He must have pulled them out of circulation at the time. They were widely used when he was a young man in the 40’s.
@JJM, I believe he was born in 1923.
What are the mintmarks? Look for the "S" mintmark on the 34's. Neat to see all that silver.

No S on the '34's. Just common circulation finds. The only better date is the 1880-O Morgan with the dark toning, which doesn't look too bad in hand.
Hmmmm…..market soaring lately, silver and gold going up, corporations and oil companies making record profits and KEEPING that money (woohoo CAPITALISM, right?), unemployment at 60 year lows…..inflation declining, gas prices declining, and coin auctions producing record prices. Where’s the faltering? Lol
Sorry but those of us that are retired do not get raises to be able to afford 9% year over year increase in food prices, record rent levels and mortgage rates (40 year highs - adjusted for inflation). Gas up 100% since 2017. Need I go on? Record debt, record number of seniors becoming homeless. ....
Still a nice batch of silver that may help someone.
I would consider a batch of silver like that a windfall that could help pay for groceries.
Well I’m retired too, and I have to agree with @knovak1976 that the the economy is improving, gas prices coming down, stock market going up and better off than I was just a few years ago. I just sold those coins for my friend who had no idea of their value and she was ecstatic!
Well, a super hot economy is what causes inflation….so things are much better than most are led to believe. Gas up? Talk to those mean oil companies who pump more oil in the USA than anywhere else in the world….and then show their capitalist hand by EXPORTING it to keep prices high. Interest rates are almost HALF of what they were under Reagan……and now at 7% everyone is complaining because they got spoiled with extremely low rates for the last umpteen years. Now you can get 5% on a money market (or close to it) while three or four years ago you were lucky to get a half of a percent! Talk about hurting seniors! Their savings grew at a snails pace. But, this isn’t the place to talk about this…..so back to our regularly scheduled forum posts…..😉
Sadly, some often feel the need to inject politics into the discussion.
Here's hoping there is a CC on the reverse of that 1890 dollar.
Nope. Just an O.
Nice. Really nice![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)

Is that a clip on that 06 Barber ?
Any chance you could post a picture of the tin the coins were stored in? Genesee brewery is local here and they have a great memorabilia display that the tin might fit into nicely.

Unfortunately not a clip. It looks like it was dropped a couple of times. Just rim dings.
Well I certainly drank more than my share of Genny cream ale pounders in college!
I figure I've paid for one of the wings over the years.

You're in Upstate NY?
Can’t tell you how much Genny Cream Ale I had growing up living in the area. Used to bring cases of cream ale to school when I went to Oswego state and Potsdam.
Now that I think about it, I was wrong in thinking the tin from Genesee brewery was Iron horse, but 12 Horse ale. Duh.
Sometimes the container that coins are stored in are more interesting than the coins. The most common containers seem to be Chivas felt bags (more Chivas drinkers than I ever imagined) and plastic pill bottles. Those are NOT interesting. A Genesse Brewery tin sound interesting.
I was in upstate (northern 😉) Ohio at the time. My college roommate couldn’t drink Bud products, and the nearby drive through was always running case specials on Genny in the 16 oz returnable bottles.
