1984 half dollar

I'm new to collecting coins. My aunt gave me quite a few half dollars from 1984. Wondering if anyone has seen anything like the impression on the ear

Half dollars of that era often have a narrow vertical depression running much of the way through the bust. This looks a little different and I've never been able to determine the cause of the minting characteristic.

Cool looking. First off don't ever clean a coin, that half has had a cleaning on the front. Cleaning or messing with a coin reduces the value, period.
Now, it does appear that it may be a strike through where something got in between the dies when the coin was struck. You said she had several from 1984 and are they all like this one?
Oh and the last two images were the only ones you needed to post, the others are useless.

    Howdy and welcome.

The images are really tough to interpret, but that's okay since coin photography can be mighty difficult. My impression is that the coin was never cleaned, but rather it was lightly circulated and that is why we are seeing some lines and marks on the obverse. As for the indentation, I don't know if it was mint made or something heavy whacked the coin in that area later in its life.

My interpretation of the photos is that the coin was struck slightly/ somewhat under correct pressure,
And the weakness of the eagle on the reverse shows that effect.
As clad king says, it occurs on half dollars and I just think that the void on Kennedy’s head is due to lack of striking and the design of the eagle on the reverse received more pressure than that area on the obv.

Fred and Clad was right. The laboratory show that this portion of the coin has the most contra-forces metal flow during the strike. I do not think could be say error because it is natural matter of the material.
