The obv is out of focus on my screen, the mintmark placement looks ok for die #1 and the VDB looks ok but I cannot tell if the shape of the mm is correct or not
My first thought was fake. Something in Lincoln’s face just looked off.
Pics aren’t high enough resolution to nail it but I’m inclined to agree with @renomedphys on this one with a high probability it’s a fake.

Fake. The coin has that, just doesn’t look right, to me and the mintmark is the wrong shape imo. It looks vertical and thin and too opened up, whereas real mms are shorter and more compact. I wouldn’t take the gamble.
Another vote for fake just based on the shape of the mintmark. Unless you are an expert authenticator, this is the type of coin that should be bought in a recognized third-party grading service slab---ANACS, PCGS, NGC, ICG, or CACG.

Impossible to tell for sure with those photos. The S does match position 2, but I don't like the shape of it.

A few questions to ask yourself-
What's the source or dealer, are the reputable?
Is it too cheap?
Spend a few dollars and buy one that's graded if you can.
There really are no bargains with coins.
A good deal is always possible but a bargain is usually followed by something negative.

I see three possibilities here:
1) It’s a genuine 1909-S VDB.
2) It’s a genuine 1909-VDB with an added S.
3) It’s a counterfeit coin.
Based on the poor images, I think the odds of it being either #2 or #3 are far greater than #1.
Why would you even consider an extremely frequently counterfeited (and added S) coin being offered with fuzzy mages? Especially when professionally graded examples are readily available?
The only answer I can think of is that you’re looking for a bargain.

Even if it is a reputable dealer they might be fooled by an altered or counterfeit coin. As others have stated this is a highly counterfeited and altered coin. Buy one already certified by a major TPG.

Looks like a genuine 1909VDB but can't tell about the mintmark without a better image.
Take it to a local dealer and ask for an opinion.
Based on his post “Looking to buy this 1909 S VDB do you think it’s real?”, he doesn’t have it.

My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I would probably go for a certified example, too much risk IMO.

Basic diagnostics look okay but would want to see in hand or much better pics to verify.

Do you like to gamble?
How much is costing you to take the risk and what grade do you think it is?
Also I should mention it appears to have some possible env damage on the reverse rim from 11 to 3.

I like to gamble but I wouldn’t buy the coin based on those images
No. S is the wrong shape. Fake.

A clear closeup of the mintmark would be beneficial to determining authenticity. The reverse looks legit so the obverse should be too.

Hard to authenticate from images like this as others stated...
Similar to position #2:
Wouldn't touch it without being certified.
We definitely need a better closeup picture of the mint mark.
I'm comfortable buying raw coins. However, if you have to ask, you are not. So, why take the risk?
Offer to pay more with return privileges if it comes back bad.
Bogus, pass. To much risk, best wishes on your decision 🙂

plenty of certified examples exist. IMO, do not take the risk.

Would need a much clearer photo of mint mark and VDB, they both look off to me.
If better photos cannot be supplied, then pass on it.

I don't like the look of that S mintmark even in the fuzzy images. I'm going with fake/added S.
Kind regards,

even if authentic may not straight grade ... risk seems high, maybe ask for better pics out of the album?
I agree with the consensus. Too much risk to buy a 1909-SVDB raw, when you can easily find a slabbed one that fits your needs.
