quote of the day:
"It doesn't look like we're going to be able to come to terms with the Jazz regarding Donyell" agent Dwight Manley, Donyell Marshall’s agent.
IS HE HEADED FOR HOUSTON?
Rashard Lewis is not happy with Seattle. Apparently, he wants the same kind of deal Vin Baker has, not max, but close, and the Sonics are telling him no deal. In fact, it’s rumored the Sonics deal was less than half of what he was seeking ($90 million). The excuse being used is the luxury tax, and unless the Sonics can dump some cap cash fast, Lewis may sign elsewhere on a 3 year deal for the median exception, and sources close to Lewis say he’ll come to Houston “if they show him the love”. The Sonics are trying to make something happen with Boston, and other clubs with needs at the four spot are talking with the Sonics. The problem is almost every team in talks with Seattle, wants the maximum $3 million in and a draft choice, for baker while returning very little in terms of talent. The rumored deal with Boston does not seem to be as active as the media has everyone believing, but talks are ongoing. The Celtics would like to see the Sonics taking on contract years in exchange for taking Vin off their hands, but moving Kenny Anderson seems to be a sticking point as his value is very high after a decent season last year, compounded with his ending contract. The Sonics are working to get some flexibility but with Rashard’s ego having been bruised by the negotiations this far, it looks likely that Seattle may lose their promising star, who doesn’t really want to be in Seattle any way
LOOKING FOR THE ‘BEST’ DEAL
Travis Best remains on the market, but that’s not for a lack of trying. His agent Forrest King, is said to have contacted just about everyone with a need at the guard spot. The Heat were said to have considerable interest until the topic of price came up. The Bulls retain Best’s rights, meaning they can sign and trade him, and apparently that’s what King is seeking. The latest team to be ‘pestered’ by King is the Milwaukee Bucks, apparently, the Bulls still have interest in Tim Thomas, despite his handling of their free agency talks, but it doesn’t seem Thomas is the type of player Chicago would like in return. King hinted to media that there were still ‘unresolved’ issues in Milwaukee, but both the Bucks and Best have substantial interest in one another. Bucks GM Ernie Grunfeld downplayed interest in best, and its assumed that without a trade the Bucks have no interest in luxury tax payments for Travis.
