1976-77 Topps Basketball Rip

I never.... I mean NEVER rip my packs so this may be my first and last. I picked this one up raw on eBay around 15 years ago. It's been sitting on a shelf ever since and I never really liked the roller marks or the corners so I figure why not. I'll post the results.

Well.... lol... I was obviously wrong about this pack. There were 6 cards in the pack and they were all sharp. I'll start from worst to best. Here are the 2 non Hall of Fame'ers (yup, it was one heck of a pack).

Now I will admit that I didn't realized Charlie Scott is in the Hall of Fame but after checking out his stats on the back, I decided to look it up and sure enough he is in.

I love that set, so much. The college stats on the back are fun especially for huge NCAA stars like Walton and Kareem and guys like Pistol Pete and Calvin Murphy who went wild when they were in school.

  • Congrats on your highly successful rip! I've never met a wax pack that I could resist ripping, so I really don't understand how so many people can, especially packs which haven't been slabbed. I feel like the guys (yes, I do know that they're just cardboard facsimiles of real people) are dying to be freed from their paper prisons and to serve the purpose they were created for. How a player as dynamic and energetic as Dr. J could have sat idly by (which is exactly what he appears to have been doing all those years) waiting for this day to finally arrive I'll never know!

Thanks for sharing that pack. Can you believe all those sharp cards were just waiting all these years waiting to be opened!

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

I had to look up Charlie Scott myself. Had never even heard of him before let alone knowing he was in the Hall. He put up BIG numbers.

I have the whole set except for the Erving. I bought packs that year from the Orange Market down the street.

Work hard and you will succeed!!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I always loved 76-77 basketball. Big, thick, cards with so much info on the back. Plus over 30% of the set are hall of famers.

Great pack, congrats on getting some great cards! I love this set too, I collected it back in the day as a seven year old, have a beautiful raw set and a couple months ago picked up 10 beautiful BBCE wrapped packs, many with HOFers showing and also have four GAI graded packs, one with Pistol Pete showing and am four packs shy of a raw box.

Do you have a pic of a back of the pack so we can see just how bad the roller marks were??😛

Thanks. I'm frustrated with myself that I didn't think to take a picture of the roller marks. I've got 4 more raw packs I picked up from the same era (can't remember if they were from the same seller). I'm not going to press my luck opening those. The roller marks are so pronounced on those big packs that I thought it should be obvious.

Major trailblazer in college at UNC, too.
