Gettysburg Coin Show report for November 2023

MICHAELDIXONMICHAELDIXON Posts: 6,501 ✭✭✭✭✭

The Thanksgiving Battlefield Coin Show was Friday and Saturday, November 24-25. The show went well and there were no security problems. One dealer commented that he had never been to a show with security carrying shotguns during setup and breakdown on the floor and outside. Dirk, Keith and Steve do an excellent job!
.
Attendance was lighter than last year. The final attendance was 649, which broke down to 415 on Friday and 234 on Saturday. I have not gone through registrations to determine how many were first time attendees. The attendance didn't hamper sales, since it seemed like everybody was there to purchase something.
.
My favorite part of the show was board member Gettysburgcollector's display of medals, flags and streamers from the Civil War Reunions. He is so knowledgeable! Even I learned a lot from him. The attendees enjoyed his display and how he shared his knowledge with them! I want to thank Kevin publicly for sharing with all of us at the show!
.
Normally, I do not setup and sell at shows. But, this show I did in order to fill 2 empty tables. And, no, I did not take the front tables as you come through the door. Whenever I was a show dealer, that irritated me whenever the promoter, who was a dealer, took the prime spot and bought most of the coins coming into the show from the public. (Enough of my rant!)
.
Literally everything was selling. I sold foreign notes and foreign coins, wheat cent rolls, undated buffalo nickels, better date Lincoln cents, seated dimes and quarters, the ANACS certified set of war nickels I had, many better date Morgan dollars, bust halves, circulated better date Peace dollars, confederate bills, small notes, proof and mint sets, B.T. Washington and Washington Carver halves, better date Mercury dimes, bullion silver and Indian head cents. I'm sure I forgot something. Talking with dealers, National Bank notes were selling, higher grade certified type coins and collector grade coins were selling.
.
The hotel was selling Parmesan Chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hotdogs, hoagie sandwiches, Nachos with cheese, sodas, water and candy just outside the bourse floor. Personally, I thought the prices were a little high, but they were not Baltimore high prices.
.
I bought several rolls of BU quarters: 1948 S, 1955 P, and a 1954 S. Additionally I purchased an Abraham Lincoln April 1965 CSNS silver centennial medal.
.
We setup the bourse floor on Wednesday afternoon and dealers setup their inventory on Thursday night from 4-8pm and Friday morning from 6-9am with the public being admitted at 9am on Friday.
.
If you are able to attend the next show, it is April 12 and 13, 2024.
.
If you were there, post a comment.
