PCGS Should Do a Blay wrap around sticker.

So much is given to pedigree, but Stewart did not believe in it and therefore never had his coins regraded (for the most part). To hold those coins in the original holders, it would be cool if PCGS did a hologram wrap around; it does not have to be big, with pedigree. They could do this with any legendary coin. That way, the coins stay original. CAC already says they are solid, so why not solidify them? Then the new owner has the pedigree. I don't have a fish in the barrel,. I wish I did, but if I did, I would appreciate that option.

Thanks for the idea, @clackamas. Having just purchased a Blay coin in a holder worth as much as the coin, I think it's a great suggestion. Similar to what NGC does for the GSA holders, if I am understanding you correctly. I'd love to have the Blay reference without reholdering or encapsulating the entire holder just to add the pedigree.
Hope there are some eyes on your idea.

Edited for grammar (hopefully before @MFeld read it)
Wouldn’t a simple CAC-like bean be easier and more tasteful. GC could have them printed and mailed to the winning bidders. Sure, there’s the risk that someone could misuse the beans, but that seems like a tolerable risk. Especially because the beans’ best use would be on actual Blay coins.

At the risk of empowering the bean-haters, I would be OK with your idea, Andy. I would support any idea short of encapsulation or reholdering to designate the Blay provenance. As it stands now, I will need to save the GC auction listing to prove the pedigree.

I personally believe that anybody who needs to see the sticker before buying the coin probably shouldn't be buying the coin.

Do you get an invoice showing the auction (provenance) and the cert #? If so, that could be the provenance.
Think 100 years from now. Keeping the old holder will be special. That was what I was getting at. Just been it Blay - or whatever but keep it all original.
I have some top sets that I could get pedigree on but I don't want to ruin the originality of the holder.
Maybe, really easy to do. I was thinking a wrap around the slab. Maybe that is too much to ask. Your idea is very easy and useful.
No - But it is easy to track. These coins are coins everyone knows about and are well documented. You can't steal the 1877 princess and no one finds out. All the top pops in every series is well documented down to the quality of the strike.
I have and have had some top sets that I could get a pedigree on ,,,,,,,,, but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, nobody cares who I am so what is the point?
I hate it when I buy a coin that has a pedigree on it of someone I have never heard of,,,,, often times I pass on the coin.
100 years from now they'll all be old holders. The question is whether people then will collect coins or holders.

True enough. The distinction will be old versus rare. My Blay purchase is in a holder where only 300 US coins were known to have been slabbed and there are an estimated 100 still in existence.

It appears no one cares about old collector envelops or auction flips when they were linked to a historic figure, coin or a collection? However, put them in a plastic holder and they take on a new dimension of interest. Not sure what happen to my Newman coin envelops when I submitted the coins to be re-auctioned with Heritage this past year? Personally I love to learn about the provenances on many of the coins while others may care less.
With the enhanced use of HD photos and wide spread use of images on the web - I would think that it will be easier to track/confirm pieces back to Blay if one makes a claim to the provenance.

Why do you feel that Stewart did not believe in having his coins regraded? Multiple examples of such in his sets.

I talked to him for hours about all sorts of things. He said and I have to paraphrase 'it is the coin it is the coin' I think he just liked the good coins and not the grade so one else said anything. he did buy the nicest coins
There’s a good friend of mine with high end Flying Eagle and IHC sets. He had the below stickers actually made up:
As many of you know, Stewart’s Registry sets used the name “Red Copper”.
Separately, other than those coins of his in OGH’s, I don’t see anything special about the other holders. I was the high bidder on one of his Indian’s, and I arranged with GC to ship my coin to PCGS to reholder with a Blay Pedigree label, get a True View, then have CAC automatically reapply their sticker since the cert number will remain the same, then back to me.
