I hate taking pics.... but if I want to sell stuff....

I should learn. I've read a lot of the threads on photo taking posted here and I thank all that offered their help to us challenged picture takers. I'm the guy that took the wedding pic with my thumb on the lens, just so you know my talent.
I decided to start with outdoors in the sunlight.... that sucks.
Then in the bathroom with bright lights and that sucked too.
Then pulled out a 5,000 lumen white light and blinded my one eye for two hours. That sucked too.
Went back to the old copy stand set up with two opposing lights and no go there either. Yellow is not the color of silver....ugh.
So, in desperation put the coin on the window sill, indirect lighting, and took this shot....I THINK I'M GOOD!
This will do right??? I may have to reduce the "saturation" from what I read if I can figure that out....what is saturation anyway???
Guess the grade if you like (it's raw and I cherried it years and years ago).

How do you cherrypick an ASE?

Short tree and no ladder needed, just reached on my tippy toes...for this cherry.
Local dealer inventory that had just arrived and he let me go through them. All in plastic cases (not mint capsules).

Picture is fine for selling the SE.

If it only works (yields correct color) in sunlight, but you want to shoot under other lighting,
then you need to learn how to adjust the White Balance on your camera.
Or maybe have a friend help out if you can't figure out how to do it.

In the normal "All Auto" setting, it assumes you are using sunlight.
For other types of lighting, you need to override this.

Often a camera will have a way to shoot a white piece of paper under your lighting,
and use it as a reference for when you shoot a coin under the same lighting.
That's how I do it on my Canon T2i.
It is called a "Custom" White Balance,
And it is only active when the mode dial is on P instead of on full auto.

For many cameras, if you google the camera model, you can find the original manual as a PDF,
and you can find the instructions there.

Lighting is important. But the background color can also fool your camera. Were all your photos taken with the same bakground?

@jmlanzaf I only posted one pic. But, now that you said that is there a preferred background color?
    thanks,

Lot of trial and error, thank God for digital cameras. I also shoot near a window, but never direct sunlight on coin. If I put something underneath it is usually a white or soft yellow piece of paper. Good to have something to verify color came our right without impacting the camera shot. Like shooting my raw in the Dansco or LOC album since again can verify color balance. Tilting coin sometimes matters, esp with toning and PL/DMPL, those are hard to photo, at least for me. I don't fool with camera whiteness or all those other settings, probably would mess it up more, but a good macro lens on a DSL is a big help.

You might hate it but you're good at it! Keep doing what you're doing. 👍🏻
