Whatever happened to ebay bucks?

I used to get these all the time. Haven't received any in probably over a year.

They killed the program, which is odd because they still have a spot on their own site for them.

Google it for a fun read. I thought the same thing not that long ago, figured they were being cheap with promotions and it had been a while since I had seem any. Had no idea myself they had shut it all down. They pulled the rug out from under most people who just weren't paying attention by quietly fading away. It was free money while it lasted, I suppose.

I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

I remember when they did away with the 1% bucks on all purchases they claimed they'd be running more ebay bucks specials instead. Fast forward a few years and it's clear they lied about that and pulled the program completely. They should have just been up front about it in the first place instead of making up a bogus explanation.

It was too good to last at the peak - where. 15% (which was more than their fees) was routine. Added a lot of great cards during the big promotions.

    yup, they killed the program.

I sure wish it still existed. I made so much "free" money from ebay bucks. I used to get most of the big promotions.

It must be at least what, 3-4 years ago? quite a while anyways.

Thanks for the replies. I really miss the 10% bucks. Especially BEFORE they started charging taxes.

I remember getting caught up in some of the bigger promotions they offered( 10 - 15%), by using it for one of those cards I had sitting my "Watch List". Say a $100 or so card and get $10 - $15, bank a few of those for the 3 months until they expired and take down another "Watch List" card. Probably cost me more than I "won" but got me some nice cards for my PC. Good Times

Yes they were purposely deceptive. Where I grew up they call it lying!

The Bucks were an incentive to bid higher and it worked. The Pandemic ended that when people were bidding as if the Sun was about to go super-nova. My guess is when eBay profits trend down further they will re-institute. Then again who knows eBay has never been accused of being smart :)

I may be misremembering, but it seems to me that about 10 or so years ago, it was 3% ebay bucks on every purchase? Am I remembering correctly?
