1924 $20 PCGS MS62 Doily label. Is $2750 too much to pay?

That depends on how much you value the plastic.

Pop is ~77,000, with over 110,000 graded higher at pcgs alone. This is the definition of common gold worth melt. Pass

I would buy it at that price, but I do place a value to the holder where some will not. Just for reference, I paid more than that for my NGC MS62 saint in a gen2 holder, but it does have a green bean. ;)

Perhaps I look at buying coins a bit differently, so I’ll explain. If I pay $2750, the value will immediately drop to ~$2000. So how do I recoup my value? The coin would need to gold sticker at cac, or I would have to have this specific coin to complete a doily set (like a gold type set all in doilies) where the value of the set is worth more than individual coins alone, or the coin is unique with a pedigree or some sort of provenance. Sure, spot gold could rise enough and bail out the value in time.

    Don’t overvalue common material.

Worth closer to your buying price if it green stickers and worth full $2700 if it gold stickers.

The Doily would need to be in prestine condition. No cracks, no missing part of the outer ring. No deep scratches in the plastic.
This is unusual for gold coins as they seem to have been passed around a lot.
So, if the Doily slab is near perfect then yes, it is worth the asking price, IMHO.

    suggestion,

ask for a contingency on your purchase subject to the coin receiving a CAC green sticker.

Luster looks good on the obverse but cannot tell if Liberty’s leg shows severe stacking. But luster always look good on 1924 Saints.

I would guess it could green sticker based on the luster alone.

I would value your coin at $2,350 retail with a CAC sticker but rising. You will have increasing difficulty finding these coins in the doily holder so I would throw away the additional $350 if it stickers and not worry about overpaying.

I paid $2155 back in 2012 for an 1897 $20 Liberty in PCGS MS-60 and later got a CAC gold sticker.

    I love doily holders but I don't think they're worth $400.

    Wasn’t the coin a 1904 $20 lib earlier today? Now it’s a 1924 saint?

    Still pass
