Is it possible to attach or embed an .mp4 video to a post? Please tell me how.

Not sure about a mp4 and I'm not too tech savvy.
I think the only way to load video into a thread on the forum is to make a YouTube video and link it.
I think I heard someone say that and if that is wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.
