"Unopened Box" GTG REVEALED

A while back someone I don't remember who posed the question, what is your favorite search term on the Bay. Possibly it was @braddick so my answer is in, "Unopened Box" and typically following the desired year and US Uncirculated etc. etc.
Unfortunately, this also brings up a lot of proof sets, but you never know so I'll give those a look as well.

Anyway, and for whatever reason this may have been my first (maybe second) unopened box so I was excited to document my findings meaning was it truly unopened. And what I found was absolutely unopened and confirmed by the contents. But, the jury is still out while the coin in question is currently in encapsulation.

Technically, the side of the box can be opened and glued back but as you can see here, after I tear the side open there is still a thin layer of paper that has never been broken. Once the sets are pulled the two outer most envelopes are toned from touching the side of the box. And by the way the envelopes are never sealed from these 5 pack boxes, food for thought.

This might end up being an expensive tuition payment but the coin looks great in-hand.
Check Coinfacts for '78 all 3 are the same coin with larger bag marks than this one. It finally got the plus apparently.

I see grazing on the top of the check (close to the hairline) and neck area, turning an MS66 to an MS65, IMHO.
Clean rims (easily overlooked on Kennedy halves yet a grading factor.)
    Nice luster/golden color- looks GEM.

These look GEM to me as well but have deep enough hits that I did not feel confident they could get past 66.
    What say you?

I'd rather grade the box and the technique of opening it. 😂 😉

I like them all at MS65 levels. Perhaps MS66.
    A nice set of halves.
I'd be concerned though if they don't reach the lofty grade of MS67 it may not be worth grading other
    than sentimental reasons.

Thanks for the input and nothing sentimental just trying to build the set in 67...back to the drawing board :)

I didn't really know what to expect other than thinking somewhere between 66 and 67+. Apparently I sold myself from another image of the coin as only 66 is the grade. PCGS is currently fine tuning my skills :)

Sometimes you just have roll the bones regardless of the possible outcomes.
Like this Ike what is absolutely hammered but with the most unfortunate hit.
MS65, and I believe it would have been a 4 w/o the hammering, trust me that hit is deep too.

Coins arrived today and I would say PCGS has got the band back together. They received on 10-6 and I received on 11-17.

Upon further inspection my guess is the strike is slightly weak and numerous hits along with the finger smudge held it back. Actually eye appeal carried it back up a notch. I'll go with that plus my new friend Ike saved the day on this sub.
