Still Trying to Find 1964-D/D RPM-001 Jefferson Nickel

It's been a while since this variety was posted on the Forum. Has any of our Jefferson Nickel Folks cherry one of these?

Thanks

    Hey Big Dog
I see that you are still looking for that nickel. To the best of my knowledge I still have the only known attributed and graded example as indicated by the census of the big 3 grading companies. I would love to get it into the Cherry Pickers Guide, but I doubt that will ever happen. If my coin is now unique you would think it would be worth a bunch.
    Here is another look

Can we see the reverse and a close-up of the MM? And what is VP-002? He is looking for RPM-001. Is VP-002 the same as RPM-001? Sorry confused.
    Thanks, Bob

THANKS! Much better! Very neat variety! I'll keep my eye out. There are still a lot of 1964-D nickels in circulation. Circulated coins do not bother me unless they are damaged or unfigureoutable.

I think that you are right about not many collectors looking for this variety. As you may notice PCGS only recognizes varieties that are listed in the Cherry Pickers Guide. On the other hand, NGC has their own listings for varieties called Variety Plus. NGC does recognize varieties that are found in the CONECA listings giving them a VP number. The real thing is to get Cherry Pickers to add a coin into their listings, then the registry hounds will be after it.
Since there were some 1.8 billion 1964 D nickels minted and a die should last at least 50,000 coins you would think that there should still be many nickels with this RPM out there. So, until if and when Cherry Pickers adds this variety to their catalog I doubt many collectors will be searching for this coin.

Good Luck in your efforts to find one!

The 1964-D/D nickel is listed in the CPG as FS-501.

that looks different than the ones shown in COINFACTS (which look like late die state erosion)

    To clarify

This is the Cherry Pickers FS-501 also known as the CONECA RPM 5
    C

This the CONECA RPM 1 also known as the NGC VP-002

VP is Variety Plus. That is NGC's attribution number for variety coins. Many, but not all, are nice varieties that are not listed elsewhere that NGC will attribute.

    mtinis,

Awesome job clarifying the RPM and VP Confusion for the non-Jefferson or other denomination collectors. Knowing the numbers you noted, I will continue my quest to Cherry Pick one of these!

Another one I am on the hunt for is the 1964-D/D RPM-003. Check this one out! Pretty cool as well!
