A different kind of Parking Lot Find, with a logical, yet unexpected explanation & a very cool pic
It kind of looks like a parking lot find. Except it's on a paved walking trail, and that walking trail is on the Grand Canyon's South Rim. Then there's this brass ring around the coin. What the heck? And there's like 90-100 of them.
The walking trail is the Rim Trail on Grand Canyon's South Rim near Verhamp's Visitor Center. But the folks in the Visitor's Center have no idea why these beat-up pennies are on their trail. Eventually, I found a tour guide with a [plausible] answer:
The brass rings are actually trail drain pipes installed to keep moisture off of the walking trails. The pennies have been placed in the drain tubes by delighted tourists who have discovered a penny fits perfectly in the drain tube. Evidently, park rangers do try to remove the pennies, only to find there are up to a dozen pennies below the top penny.
Mystery solved. Enjoy!
If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.

That's just wrong. Why ?
Very interesting story and thanks for sharing.
If you think about it...Is that how the canyon maintains stability ?
Sorry. Snake bit.
HMMMM. I would have never thought that the explanation would be that.

Interesting story. They should change the pipes to silver dollar size! 😂 🤣
Another example of tourists damaging and defacing National Parks!

So if the drain pipes are plugged with pennies shouldn't the canyon be full of water by now?
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
I got a penny stuck up my nose like that once.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Don't feel bad, I had a pencil eraser stuck in my ear in elementary school! 😂
