If it's not too expensive, I could see a slab collector buying one because it's so unusual and just plain weird.

$38. I posted the screenshot above.

It’s CAG, not CACG. I thought the same thing at first til I noticed the little scale next to the CAG that made me realize it’s some branch of NGC https://www.cagcertified.com/

Looking on eBay, I see they also slab mummy cloth and newspaper clippings

And wood pieces and more types of cloth

I wonder how they authenticate this kind of stuff 🤔

Provenance matters a lot for most of those.

This is silly. The only parties coming out ahead here are GovMint and the grading service. Would these scraps be collected or collectible if not for their coordination?

It's actually CAG, a part of NGC's collectors group.

Somehow I'm reminded of the "authentic strands of Lincoln's hair" that are about 1/8th inch long and regularly seen all over the internet...

Sort of like those beans glued on skin that are touted as ticks?

Who cares about a provenance of a Nintendo service center in 1991?

Absurd...... a pillaging (spoiling) of the collectibles marketplace.

I’m picturing a group of Chinese counterfeiters trying to copy that Nintendo repair company refrigerator magnet and getting Mario’s mustache wrong 😑

This is another great opportunity that I am going to leave on the table for all of you. You're welcome!

I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.

A cheaper “substitute” just now popped up in my Facebook feed. But if you read the words on the slab it makes it sound like it’s not the real deal, maybe, sort of 🤔

I suppose. But I would want my coin slab service to be associated with genuinely intrinsic items. If you slab anything it diminishes the value of the brand. Would Louis Vuitton license their name to Nabisco?

Nintendo began marketing in the US in the late 70's.

Nintendo began marketing in the US in the late 70's.

They slab VHS tapes, video game cartridges, Pokémon cards. And there are large markets for those items.

IIRC, when they bought our the coin service, they actually wanted the card service which was larger and more profitable.

    Bunch of collectible snobs. LOL.

I've got a couple of pieces of the Berlin Wall here. They were sold as collectibles after the Fall.

I've got a piece of the skin of Lindbergh's plane here. Those planes had paper (cardboard) skins that needed occasional replacement. So they cut it up and sold the pieces as collectibles.

The Franklin Mint sold those silver "space flown coins". They took a couple of ounces of silver that had been carried into space by an astronaut and melted it into 1000 ounces of terrestrial silver to make little moon coins.

There were the Constellation medals where, again, some metal from the constellation was melted into a giant pot and then turned into medals.

And, of course, don't forget the irradiated dimes from the 1940s that were sold as souvenirs. Good luck finding any evidence of exposure.

I see no reason why someone couldn't collect a cut square from a "famous" historical item as an affordable little piece of history.

Got any skin from the Hindenburg?

I suppose I’ve lived long enough to see everything no matter how ridiculous it is.

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

You obviously don't read responses. This is not CACG. It is an EXISTING artifact slabbing operation that is owned by the same people who own NGC.

And why do you care what they slab? They are in the business of authenticating. They are not in the business of only authenticating things of which you approve.
