PNNA Oregon Show Report...

This is a show I look forward to every year... My local coin club is the sponsor so it's filled with familiar faces and friends volunteering and making sure folks are happy.
it rained pretty good both days on & off so I was happy to spend it inside.
About a month ago another friend asked if I'd want to share a table with him... I haven't played "coin dealer" in about 10 years so it was an easy yes for me, I've been buying all along and not really selling anything off so I had quite a bit of excess.
Bullion sales for me were very strong. I had a lot of collectible 2oz pieces, premium Canadian wildlife, Pirate rounds, Intaglio mint misc, ugly toned silver eagles, some 45cal bullets, etc - they all flew out of the case between 27 & 30 per oz. I was feeling pretty heavy in silver lately and wanted to convert to a few fractional gold so that was a big success for me.
It was jam packed business on Saturday. Sales were strong for everyone I talked with... Sunday was less crowded for sure but pretty equal in strong sales and interest.
A couple surprises along the way...
I sold all but 4 of the PCGS slabs in my case which was awesome. At one point, I had 5 PCGS coins out showing them to a customer and after some scrutiny, he said he'd just take them all.
My table mate spent a good 15 minutes talking about coins to a kid who was probably 10-12 years old while his mom looked on. About the time I was noticing how long it was taking, the kid popped out a hundred dollar bill and purchased the coin he liked.
On Sunday a similar situation, I had two kids stop by and ask about some of my original bank wrapped rolls, I explained the process, how they were delivered to banks by the Feds, yes, they were still new inside, etc. It was cool to talk with them but I didn' think much about it until about half an hour later they come back with their dad in tow and pulled out $280 for a unopened roll of Franklins.
You always wonder when someone is taking up time or space at your table as you watch potential buyers glance and keep on walking if you're losing sales but I guess it goes to show you never really can know.
Anyway... a very successful show for me and every dealer I spoke with said exactly the same.
I guess it was too windy to fish up north because @2windy2fish was set up just a few tables down from me. We had a good time catching up in the small spaces between customers. He's a solid guy., a smart collector with a good eye for quality coins. He was gracious enough to swing by on Sunday and pick over my very picked over inventory for his next show sales... I appreciated that very much and cut him some slack as much as possible. (I'm still hoping he invites me fishing one of these days)
I bought two really nice coins I have not photographed, I'll share those with you all later.
Here's a few shots - my drive in, the public on Saturday and my case full of stuff & things...

Nice report and glad that it was a success for everyone.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Thanks for posting your report!
I found this interesting:

I wonder if the market is starting to turn back, or if this was an anomaly.
Sorry to have missed it - though retired, agreed to help my old group by working this weekend.
Thanks for the report!
Thanks for your report. Looks like a busy little show.

Thanks for the report sounds like it was overall a good show. Even though I live about 3 miles from the Monarch, I couldn't make it this year due to recovery from heart surgery. I couldn't make the last two for other reasons. Hopefully next year is the charm.
Nothing like a good rain to help out with show attendance. People can't do much outside so they migrate to indoor activities/interests.
Great report and pics!!! Very nice show report!

I’ll chime in here with my “2 Cents” worth!
An interesting show indeed! I was set up a few tables away from the legendary @Meltdown ….
I made record time from Anacortes to Clackamas Friday mid day in 4 hours 10 minutes! If ya know ya know! Friday afternoon was Dealers/Earlybirds only, set up was easy as the Willamette Coin Club has their show down pat…Bourse was steady during the open hours from 3 to 6…i was a bit underwhelmed…i sold a handful of coins to my regular customers, mostly West Coast Coins/Revick.
Saturday however was an entirely different story, as soon as the doors opened it was nonstop until nearly 4 PM! Literally 4 to 6 people at my 2 tables pretty much non stop, my bladder was not happy…
@Omegaraptor was prowling the bourse all day picking off unsuspecting dealers with his numismatic prowess…i feel sorry for those guys, he is a shrewd buyer!
I was fascinated by the business Saturday, i sold 2 coins all weekend over 500 dollars the rest was 5 to roughly 150 dollars per type/album coins…I had a handful of Cull Morgan/Peace dollars that sold easily at 25 per including a holed dollar, i had a bit of bullion but sold very little and no gold sales…perhaps i was too high as other dealers reported strong sales of gold and silver, i was likely too high and that’s ok, i feel like hanging on rn is the correct play…
Multiple times during the show i tried to escape to check out @Meltdown coins but as soon as i would start down the isle another customer would approach…damn it i know i missed out on some killer coins! His tables was chaos all weekend as well… I did manage to spend a little with him Sunday afternoon but i had to do so after i had closed my table, i know everyone else got the good stuff!
Super fun to interact with all the kids at the show including a local boy scout troop, i likely gave away 70 to 80 coins to kids, it’s always interesting to see what they choose from the box!
There was an enterprising young lady there (10 YO?) that fleeced all the dealers with her spin the wheel for a dollar game with a chance to win a Mercury dime, she said she was raising money for her college fund and by the end of the weekend her gallon ziplock bag was crammed with dollar bills!
Cute/ Smart young lady…
As usual my expectations for Sunday sales were low but i ended up having my best Sunday ever of any show…I had a goal in mind for the weekend and exceeded it by a couple grand, i am challenged lately by a lack of inventory and a backlog at PCGS.
Late Saturday i looked at a 1883 PCGS MS67 Seated dime as i was running to the restroom, told myself i would go back Sunday and pull the trigger….but of course he pulled the plug and was not there…
it was one of those perfectly toned gun metal grey kinda rainbow toned coins…my bad as i did not even get any contact info, i would very much like to own that coin!
The drive home was exactly the same as Friday except that it poured the whole way home, i made it without stopping as it seems like returning from a show is the most lifetime for shenanigans…
Great show report! Accurately reflected what I experienced as well as I was set up a few tables down. Thanks @meltdown for the gold CAC Merc and Wa. Qu. Both coins sold already!! I’d love to have a shot at what you may find in the future! 😉
I neglected to mention that i had a young man swing by Sunday afternoon frantically buying coins nearing the shows end. I prodded him a bit and he said he’s selling on Whatnot and having great success…he could not attend the show Saturday and was doing his best to buy as much as he could in a couple hours at the show…spent about 1500 on 25 to 50 dollar coins and wanted anything i had with toning or color!
To your point Meltdown, you never know who is gonna buy what or have what for sale.....
I was set up at the HNSA show last weekend as well. Two small stories that fit your experience.
I had an old guy walk up, sit down, and proceed to graze my candy bowl. After selecting 3 or 4 candies, he whipped out a gold bar and asked for a price. I gave it to him. He says oh, ok. Continues to graze for another 10 minutes. Then says he has another 15 eagles and 5 bars at home. I say, great. He grazed a bit more (I think he sat at my table for like 20 minutes). He wandered off never to be seen again....until the next day when he shows up with 5 eagles and says I'll take your price....
Similarly, a nice middle aged couple show up and the guy says can you give me a price on these. I was expecting run of the mill morgans or something like that. Nope. Proof Seated Dollars, MS Seated Dollar, and a Mid 1850s RB Large Cent. One was an 18k coin, the other about 3K, and another about 5K. That was the start of his pile....
Ya just never know who has what, or wants what!

Lovely showcases.

Went to the show on Saturday, it was pretty packed. Lots of buying and selling going on, I was able to walk away with a couple of chopmarked coins. Got to catch up with an old timer chopmark collector who I hadn't met before, so it was definitely worth the trip.
