Al's nipping at my heels in the Merc registry

CocoinutCocoinut Posts: 2,512 ✭✭✭✭✭
I was just checking the Merc registry and was surprised to see Al moving up so fast. Apparently he's too modest to mention it, but he's added a 1927-S in MS65FB, a '29-D in 65FB. and a '36-P in 67FB. That '27-S is a beauty (see pic) and a real high-powered coin. Att that rate I expect to have Al's footprints on my back before long.

Congratulations on the additions, Al!!

Jim

Boy !! Holy Cow !! He Did Buy It !!

AL sort of Kept the 27S Purchase Secret, well almost secret. Thats the One that was on the Whitlow Site I believe. He Thought it Might Need a Bath to Make it Shine More. Well after a Small Butt Chewing I see He changed His Mind. Glad He Did as it is a Great Looking Coin. image The Man is Putting Together a Set that I am Very Envious Of.
      Jim:
Hold Him off for awhile !!!image But I am Sure the enevitable (SP Big Word for Me) will happen as AL is Relentless in His Search for these Babies.

        1. Well my additions have slowed(high dollar dimes left)
But I think I have A line on a 38-s,my last not so expensive addition
but hey I did fine some extras that Al needed and offered to let him borrow the cert numbersimage
but seriously I did notice that 4 or 5 sets updated earlier this week.

          Jim,

Very nice 20-S. Wouldn't want to sell it would you? Very very nice coin.

          Al,

What can I say about your 27-S, except WOW and drool a lot. You gained 3 points on me there. OUCH!
You have a really fine set going there.

Ken, at this rate we are both going to have tracks up our backs as these guys pass us up.
          Oh well, ain't this fun!?!?!

I'm Just Hopeing that the 4 Guys right behind Myself ( Dennis, Tim, Jim, and Al ) Do Not get in a Big Rush to Finish thier sets all at once. The Old Back just Will Not be able to Handle the Trampling that it would take when They Walk Over Me to the Top.image The Pain for the Back would Hurt but in another sense it would be Very Neat to see the Guys get Closer to Finishing Thier Sets. image

This Is Not "FAIR" !! Jon You are Going to St Louis to Check for Dimes and Dennis is Going to Oklahoma City for Dimes. Both Big Population Centers. Heck I am Stuck with Going to Aurora, Oregon to Look for Dimes. Population 2000 at the Most. image

Hey guys - I get to play in your sandbox too. I just bought the 1945(s) in PCGS-MS68FB (Micro s) and will likely be closing a deal on the 1942/1 Dime in PCGS-MS66 Monday. Mercuries are fun image

              Mitch,

Are those for a set of your own, or for resale?

If you're going to join us, welcome aboard. We can be assured that any set you put together will contain a lot of MS66+FB coins. Hope you show us some pictures so we can all admire them.

If you're not forming a set, maybe you could become a dealer in Mercs. There's plenty of enthusiasm for them here.

"Are those for a set of your own, or for resale?"

Jim: I would love those coins to be for my own set (my set presently consisting mainly of color coins I busted out of PCGS and NGC holders long ago and placed in one of those Library of Coins albums with a boatload of "tags" thrown in the back of the book to remind me where the coins originally came from) , but resources simply will not permit it.

In the case of the 1942/1, the bands are 99%+ there - take away the 5 power (i.e. wear rose colored glasses) and they look perfect. I know the previous dealer that "made" the coin tried hard for the FB designation at PCGS. I'll get this coin up next week on my site image Wondercoin.

Nice coins WonderCoin. Is the overdate from David Lawrence? I think they had a 66 NB.

              Tim: Pm sent.

Dimeman: Yes, D. Lawrence had the 42/1, although I struck a dealer with the dealer who consigned them the coin.

Does anyone know if any one of the (4) PCGS-MS66FB 1942/1 specimens are available for sale?

              Ken,

When are you going to post your 26-S to your set? I saw it on the other thread and the top of the basic registry is really moving, given the cost of new acquisitions when you start getting close.
