I know on occasion PCGS will upgrade your grading service if they find that the coin has a premium-For example-sending in a economy coin and they think it needs to be graded as a walkthrough instead
Does PCGS notify you before it’s been upgraded?

For example—-
During the grading stage for example….would they notify you before or after they encapsulate it? Also do they notify you first before they charge your card?

I kindly ask that there are no rude comments please. I am here to learn and not to be ridiculed. Thank you. 🙏

No, pcgs charges the card automatically for the tier they put the coin in. You’re notified of the specific charge when you see the invoice

Since this has not happened to me in a very long time, I cannot say how PCGS currently handles this situation.

Notwithstanding, what you agree to when submitting can be found in the "PCGS Grading Terms & Conditions", section #6:

I would like to know if a coin is sent in believing it to be a rare and expensive variety and if it is determined not to be if there is any recourse in a return of a partial submission fee.
Another example. If a 1795 AU dollar is sent in and determined to be a counterfeit is part of the fee refunded?
I am not of the opinion it should be, but I don't know pcgs's policy.

You do not receive a partial refund for either scenario. In the case of the coin that is not as valuable as you expect, you have paid for a service upgrade at the start and received the service. Similarly, for a counterfeit coin PCGS has to make certain it is not good and also provides a service.
