What's current market for Unc. dollars?

logger7logger7 Posts: 8,631 ✭✭✭✭✭

I was at a shop today where a wholesale buyer was quoting wholesale Peace and Morgan dollar unc. buys in the $20s....Did I miss something, is there a huge glut on the market with the bottom falling out or was that an aberation?

I was in a shop yesterday. They are paying only $16-17 face for 90% and $3 over spot for graded ASEs. He said premiums have gone away on silver. Only one shop but you Peace dollar price seems to confirm it.

That is not accurate. Upstate buy price is $21.50 for Fine or better Peace and $33 for Fine or better pre-1921 Morgans. The AU/UNC price for Morgans is $42.

The bullion premium has evaporated. The $ premium dropped a little but is still there. See my prior post for details.

At those levels, the Morgans need to be pre-21. And real Unc pre-21’s should still be about $50.

    Correct. Sorry. I should specify.

    Fixed it. Thanks

The market is no doubt getting more selective and fussy, culls and problem coins, cleaned issues are selling for less. I checked "Arizona coin exchange" online buy list and it looks like the link does not work. https://www.azcoinexchange.com/buylist.htm

You should have asked him to sell you a few dozen UNC Morgans and at what price.

Shops - YMMV. Numismatic sales have been weak for many. One shop owner friend stocking up on survival food. We live in uncertain times. Many believe we are on the brink of all out war in the Middle East. The reality is buying has been reduced for many due to cash flow concerns from slow sales. One shop I frequent they buying junk silver at 85-90 pct melt. Some of this they flip on eBay and have to factor shipx & selling costs cost when flip. Slabbed Numismatic coins they offer 20 - 33 pct behind CDN bid due to slow demand and current market conditions. Culls either rejected or any offer considerably discounted. I bought a lot of 4 nice slabbed coins they flipped to me at bid plus 5 pct. One friend going to setup at upcoming show asked him if wb buying at show / he says “yes but I am gonna low ball the heck out of them. They not paying the money for anything (online).”

Over the last two months, our wholesaler (who is heritage affiliated, so right with market) has dropped dollar premiums by $2-3 across the board. Also, the major market buyers have gotten real picky and selective on what qualifies at what grade /price level. Generic gold same, they used to pay a fairly decent price for jewelry grade generic gold, but now they are turning down lots, and sending back. Anything jewelry grade now, i have to buy at scrap jewelry prices and toss in scrap bag to get rid of it.

On a local level, silver sales for generic .999 and silver eagles has dropped off considerably, many that were eager buyers over past year, I have not seen, a few have even come in and dumped to raise cash. 90% sits and I sell at melt. Taking 600 face to the smelter in the am, piling up so fast on a daily basis, the number of people selling daily is pure insanity.

Interesting. Of course circumstances vary, but buying high and selling low seems to be classic small investor methodology.

I'm paying around $50/coin for roll-fresh unc pre-21 right now. $41-$42 for AU-ish and sliders.

Yes, Peace and 1921's are in the shitter. Things are finally returning to normal-ish.
