A real guess when you can't see the whole coin.

You can see the worst of the coin in the pics. You aren't missing anything. Its not a trick and its straight graded PCGS

I was just going to say AU Details!
Looks smoothed or whizzed to me, as you say it is straight graded I'm not going to guess as I have no idea why it got a pass from the graders.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
@coinbuf Im not sure why it received the grade that it has either. People are always knocking the other grading services so I had to post this.

FWIW, I need to see the whole coin, at a reasonable resolution, in order to get a handle on its general condition. Very high resolution images can help pinpoint grade, but it's not the beginning or end, for me. YMMV
AU details, polished….from what i can see….
Its not my coin so I don't know if its cool to post the image with the cert and I cant get it to load into the program I use to blot out the cert number.
Anyhow the coin is straight graded PCGS 58. It looks more like a 45ish maybe 50 to me so I think they got this one wrong by a mile.

Also its a 37 D 3 leg so the grade affects the value greatly.

So, just another "rare" coin that got a free pass..................AGH

Wow; another excellent illustration of "buy the coin, not the holder"!
I agree. The tail does show a lot of wear for a 58..............
And it's definitely not UNC.

That's just a worn die...
I've seen others in Trueviews plus I have a couple examples (raw) I'll post later after work and they're Jeffersons if not more.
The change in color on the hip and tail especially indicates that its wear.

Thanks, I jumped in without reading the entire thread this morning and now I’m on the road I’ll come back later.
Even in UNC these coins don't look great. I wouldn't say that 58 was a "miss by a mile".
Here is my MS62, which to be honest I thought would grade 58.
I had an AU53 CAC example several years ago that I sold, probably should have held onto that one.

@ChrisH821 The 62 you show looks 58. The 53 looks properly graded. Neither of your coins shows the heavy wear on the back hip of the bison like the one i posted. Your 53 is much nicer.

For comparison only, I show my XF45 copy; I've always thought it was a good copy for the grade (the mark under the eye on the obverse is on the plastic, not the coin).
