I got the following coin on the left this weekend in change at a Pittsburgh area gas station. It has mushy detail and that grainy look that I think it might be a poorly made counterfeit. (The one on the right is for comparison). Why anyone would want to counterfeit a 1975 nickel, I have no clue...
It is either that, or a "rare" enviro-damaged parking lot find wurth millionz.

I've seen many coins with that look. Have always been told it's some type of environmental damage.
