Andrew Jackson gold dollar

I read that the lettering on the edge is readable, when Jackson’s face is up. Is that right? Mine is upside down. Is there any value?

No, the lettered edge is done first before the coin is struck and its relation to the face of the coin is totally random. 50-50 chance on which way it goes.

    Welcome to the forum.

"I read that the lettering on the edge is readable, when Jackson’s face is up. Is that right? Mine is upside down. Is there any value?"
It has a value of 1 dollar. Whoever says otherwise is just trying to create an excuse to sell them as an error.
As mentioned above, it is 50-50 which way they are struck. I'm sure the mint does not want to spend the time
and money having someone turn millions of planchets so the lettering is facing up before they re struck.

  • Thank you! I’ll put it back with the others.

Is that true of all coins like the Presidentials

It applies to all US coins with edge lettering, British coins as well. No idea on other countries.
