    I heard about this over the weekend. pretty terrible. I am surprised there isnt some sort of pad to mitigate this type of injury. I know of it happening twice before in the NHL, but not fatally.

    George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

    Horrible tragedy. RIP. They really do need some kind of protective padding to prevent this from happening again.

    I honest to goodness never even thought of such a thing...or that such a thing could be invented.

    There is a pad, its uncomfortable and its such a freak things no one wears it. Its a chocker around the neck and has been around for decades.

    The NHL might just mandate it like they did with the half visors that most dislike

    Yeah, they were briefly popular after Malarchuk got hurt but they are so uncomfortable nobody wears them.

    there are idiots claiming it was deliberate. Like the other guy is bruce lee doing spinning back kicks and targeted the dudes neck

    Very sad - I feel sorry for his family in Hibbing & Grand Rapids MN and for the people in attendance that had to witness it.
