@NJCoin what is your obsession with this show is it the town or the promoters. I have no dog in this show did not attend, do not know the promoters. Just tell us why you hated this show from day one and it is not the admission fee or lack of a dealers list.

No obsession. Just observations, from Day One, regarding the admission fee, lack of transparency, and location. I also have no skin in the game, and wouldn't know the promoters if I bumped into them.

Nashville is a great place to visit, but apparently not a great place to host a coin show. Everything I raised as a concern ended up manifesting, but I'm not beating my chest saying I told anyone so. My interest is solely as a collector who would love nothing more than to have another great show to attend.

For free of course (And I agree).

See @Catbert ’s quote from Liz Coggan just above for your answer. (I was going to post that quote here, but Cat beat me to it!)

I also have no skin in this game, but from what I’ve read, the organizers tremendously botched their opportunity. On top of that, from what I read, they seemed inclined to fully reject constructive criticism!

A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!!!

An interesting comment from a post ats, this seems to sum up this show from all that I have read.

VERY interesting!!! Totally explains all the misses from my point of view, as a retail collector. Also probably explains why the show has no future.

All the arrogance aside, there is no hobby without collectors. So let's see how just how many dealers are willing to spend the money to go hang out among themselves in Nashville every year, when they have so many other opportunities to do robust wholesale AND retail business in lower cost environments.

IMEX was not exactly a Field of Dreams, and now we kind of know why. As I said before, "Let Them Eat Cake."

    My exact thoughts.

Everything from the chosen dates, lack of advertising, high table prices, entry fee, to Steve Forbes (who cares about him?) showed a lack of being in touch with the numismatic community. (Not that I expected more from Ellsworth.)

Why so many smart businesses fell for it, I don’t understand.

The reason I think he held the show was to live up to his promise to the governor to hold a show in TN and not to start a successful annual show. He got his numismatic tax break on the backs of all those coin dealers he fleeced into attending.

I probably should have picked a different topic for my first post here. But, I attended the show and may have a somewhat different perspective than some that have commented.

My wife and I drove up from southern middle TN on Saturday morning. We got there about 9:15. There was no line and it took at most 5 minutes to fill out registration cards, have ID checked and pay. Very easy process and we appreciated the extra security of checking IDs.

We planned to take a quick loop around the room, but didn't make it far before I stumbled on a dealer's table that had some coins that I had been stalking online. Was able to see the coins in hand and less than 30 minutes in, had made my first purchase. The dealer was so nice to my wife, that she went back to his table later in the day and bought another coin from him. Between us, we ended up buying several coins (mainly pre-33 gold) and some bullion at what seemed like some pretty low premiums compared to our LCS. We also got to hold the multi-million dollar coins that some others have mentioned. I was shocked when John Grainer from Hard Asset just pulled them out of the case and handed them to us!

My only complaint is the number of dealers that weren't there at all on Saturday or left early in the day. I understand folks have travel plans, time commitments, etc., but for folks like us that couldn't make it until Saturday, was very disappointing.

While I've been collecting most of my life, my wife is new to this all and this is the first large show that she has attended. She was really fired up over the experience and is already trying to figure out the next big show that we can attend. I don't think she has any regrets that we paid $20 to get in, $20 for parking or $31 for lunch. I don't have any regrets either and would have no issues paying again to attend this show.

Welcome to the forum! And welcome to the wonderful world of coin shows. It sounds like this might have been your first.

If so, you should know that ghost towns on the last day are not unique to this show. If not, why were you either disappointed or surprised? You also shouldn't be impressed by the fact that you had no trouble going in while the place was clearing out.

If you feel like you got good value for $71, you are easy to please, and that's not a bad thing! If you want to really have your socks knocked off, try to make it down to Orlando on January 4th for the FUN show. It will totally change your perspective on what a good show looks like.

    I agree @BRZ

It was a great venue to hold a show. It was a great weekend to hold it. The entry fee was reasonable (it’s $3 for my local show next weekend, should I protest the show?)

Never expected to hold a multimillion coin. Well, several of them.

I will be a return customer if it is held again next year.

@BRZ I'm happy that you and particularly your wife had a great time at her first show! I hope you both get to enjoy a FUN show sometime.
