I like original toning and OGHs, too, but damn…

I naïvely thought that I could get it for $700 or $800. LOL

Not a tarnished coin fan so don’t really like the coin. Amazing it went for that. Rich collectors in bid war? Winner certainly the end user. The coin certainly will get darker as time goes on. Definitely a super nova auction result.

I am sure the auctioneers are happy on that one. The submitter must be elated.

Yes, that crossed my mind, too.

    A 1944-S in MS 67 retails for a staggering $42,500!

So, he'd still come out way ahead.

I had it on my watchlist and was preparing a bid when I decided it made no sense for me.

If it had a green sticker would it have hammered for less?

It may not have hammered for less, but I would imagine it might have had fewer folks seriously considering placing a bid.

Looks like several of us watched in disbelief.

Now we just watch to see if it upgrades.

    Very
Back and forth then three times there at the end where it took each bidder a few seconds to increase.

Entire auction was probably less than 2-3 minutes (I’m sure someone has the official time)

I went to the heritage site and looked at it blown up. It is over graded by 2 points in my opinion. Not that good of a thumb either. The scratch on the reverse on the eagle would knock it down for me. I like my 65 better and for a lot less money.

    Have a good day, Gary

HA brings top dollar often is my take, and I was thinking it may be the rare coin over a few hundred in value that has not been to cac yet.

pretty much everything on heritage has been to cac right?

I've bought multiple $1000+ coins including a $4k coin which all CACed post-auction. Whether they were there before or not, I don't know, but seems unlikely.

EDIT: Within the last several years.

Hard to believe the price difference between 66 and 67. Sheesh.

  • logger7logger7 Posts: 8,631 ✭✭✭✭✭

The first time I owned one of these Walkers was a PCGS certified one from Jim Fehr of Ellesmere Numismatics back in the late 1990s that was blast white and graded MS65. I spoke with James Rottman of "Boardwalk" rc recently who was with them back then after selling his printing business who I saw at a CT coin shop. Later I sent it with some other coins to Richard Nachbar who probably had adopted the strict old school grading (at least when buying) and called it "MS64", I did not sell to him at a lowball price. "In the holder" should at least be a good guide.

If it ain’t bright white, it ain’t right!

Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.
