Ouch :#. Normally PCGS is the conservative one.

Problem is they are still pricing the coin at a proof67. Drop it to the correct pr64 price at $100-$150 and I’d be a buyer.

erwindoc- did it have a cac sticker when it was in the pcgs 67 holder?

Question, why don't they just re-subit the coin to PCGS, since there is a true View wouldn't they just put it back to the grade it was?
    Just curious

No, anything could of happened to the coin after it got cracked out

Ehh, at least it’s a relatively cheap coin begin with. 3 point drop is pretty extreme though, I almost wonder if the coin was mishandled after it was cracked out.

Looks like the real picture of the coin shows just the ugly black tarnish toning - no NGC ★ for that

Yes, the "toning" looks terminal at this point, definitely tarnished

    Still priced like a 67

  • So is it the fact the rim was char-broiled that dropped it at NGC?

No, it did not have a CAC sticker.

    What do you think, @TomB

I think the toning looks way too dark in areas and it looks terminal, having eaten through the luster layer. Not a coin for me, regardless of grade or holder.

Found this from an older sale of this piece from about 5 years ago. Also posted the images from current and older sale (recent sale image first).

Crack it out and send it to CACG.

As @erwindoc already knows, I also had owned this coin at one time and had offered it in my inventory. The edges are dark, the skin original and, in hand, I think the color pops far more than the non-PCGS images. Of course, the folks who have not seen it in-hand appear to know everything about the piece, but I think it's attractive. If I recall correctly, I bought and sold this coin without a CAC sticker on it and the CAC database indicates that the coin did not have a CAC sticker, as well. In a PCGS PR67 holder it's a +/-$300-$400 coin so the fact that it didn't have a CAC sticker didn't set any alarm bells off for me.

The seller indicates it was cracked out prior to sending to NGC and once that happens all bets are off as far as surface integrity. Just a few wispy hairlines or one patch of hit or hairline from sliding in a flip or mishandling and a mid-century PR67 can plummet to a PR64. Thankfully for this seller the value wasn't large.

The person should have sent it for crossover stating a minimum grade. Most likely got damaged when cracked out.
