Anyone have trouble getting their CAC beaned coin with the bean reapplied after getting a new holder

Herb_THerb_T Posts: 1,754 ✭✭✭✭✭

For any reason since they have started grading coins?

I have heard of a few instances of that happening.

Sent in two coins which needed to be restickered after receiving a new holder.

Sent in picture (before new holder) and received the stickers. No issues.

The easy way is to indicate on your reholder submission to PCGS to keep the same cert number.

Sounds like the results have been positive so far….

Ive never had an issue when I've used reconsideration, and I know of quite a few who have had no issues even after crossing at grade to another tpg. Come to think of it, the only person I've ever heard encounter an issue is...well...you. 😅

Heard it can happen if coin went bad in the holder.

Remember TPG grading is a point in time. Exposure to the atmosphere, heat, salt air, possibility of biological attack, horrible tarnish, is a reality. (Coin Preservation Handbook).

I look at every coin offered me very carefully - IF TPG I don’t know when it was graded or its status at that point in time. For all I know the seller could be looking dump their trash on me.

Kinda. I had the bean reapplied, but it was reapplied at a lower grade. The coin was accidentally cracked out of its XF45 holder by the USPS during a period of needed grade tightening.

That reminds me to check my registry, as I could score an 'upgrade' if I enter the old cert. number. >:) LOL!

And YES! It took the old cert. number. I finally got my upgrade! My grade average rose 0.126 points! My collection score rose a whopping 0.043 points!

How tough are the PCGS registry police?

No trouble at all...as long as you have the supporting documentation and images to prove it if you return it with a different S/N. It was painless for my resubmissions after variety attribution since the S/N did not change.

My last sticker submission I was told if the cert number changed, even if the grade stayed the same it would be treated as a first time submission……no resticker

But, but, but . . . it's the same coin, blessed by the one and only JA! Twice! And he doesn't seem to care much for the extra XF grade anyway, i.e., an XF40 CAC = XF45 CAC. Finally, the coin never changed during the "Immaculate Compression," showing that it has been divinely blessed and perhaps deserving of an XF45+ grade.

In all fairness, PCGS are the ones that regraded your coin a grade lower, not JA. And yes, he green stickered it at both levels, but Gold is rarely given out, and personally I think he gives extra points for originality. Even if he thought it wasn't super strong as a 45 the first time around, its still much better coin than 90% of the other XF45 graded seated halves so you still got the sticker.

I'm 29th on the all-time list with a set rating of 10.5, 0.31 points away from 28th place. It will be changed, but it's no threat to anyone chasing a Top 5 set, or Top 20 set for that matter for the time being. I added pictures of both slabs.

Well now you understand why I ask. I have been sending in CBH to get attributed. I have sent 60 in so far and want to send some in that have the green bean applied. I don’t need any surprises as some of them are mint state. It’s always better to look before jumping in.

It's all good, no need to change anything :)

I'm mostly kidding here. Yes, the coin would have to clearly be an AU50 to receive a gold bean. It isn't. IMO, it was a borderline 40/45 by the standards at that time, with nice toning in a 45 holder (a "B" coin). It is now a strong 40 worthy of a green bean (an A-quality EF40, IMO). JA has stated (CAC forums) that he feels the two XF grades should be consolidated into one grade. How that might affect his judgment in grading SLH in XF, I don't know, but I do know his standards for XF40 in terms of wear are quite high. I like that. I have no problems with the assigned EF40 grade and will delete the earlier cert. number from my little "experiment.". I'm just very thankful I have the coin back to me without a mark on it. That PCGS inner capsule did a nice job protecting the coin from damage.
