Hi guys,
I just picked these 2 Quarter Toners up!
Both 1963p.
For only $7 apiece, I just couldn't resist!
I fell in love with the spectrum of colors.
I admit, they do appear to had been in a fire, maybe???
Despite if so. The Rainbows 🌈 on them are FIRE!!!
What do you guys say?
Thanks

First one-

Second one-

"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!

I doubt either were actually in a fire, but both appear to have terminal toning.

Toning that has gone so far, so thick that it is essentially black and can largely inhibit the luster.

    I read initially...

"Beauty is in the eye of the reholder"

If you like that type of toning...I don't care for it...too dark.

Ugly toning. And although grading as well as toning is subjective, you may want to check yourself out when it comes to educating yourself on what eye appeal is and what beautiful toning looks like.

Not sure if beer would do the trick here, might need a few sequential whiskey shots :D

I understand , but I believe you might have a weak eye for eye appealing toning at this moment in time and should be open to learning what is positive aside from your personal tastes that seem faulty . Of course this is just my opinion but whatever became of learning what is good from some of the very learned members here who know what positive vs what is bad and not relying one's own personal feelings which can be flawed especially if one doesn't try to improve oneself or isn't aware of their weakness(es) .

    Cool… from 1963. What a year, right.

  • jayPemjayPem Posts: 4,081 ✭✭✭✭✭

    Food for thought...🤔

A few of the posts above take me back to my first year on this forum. I also had some pretty high opinions regarding what great eye appeal my coins had... the forum not so much.

Privately, it did sour me for awhile on the forum and collecting...
This place didn't provide much in the way of soft and cuddly back then, but I did manage to hang on, eventually learning a bit about what it was guys like TomB and Coinguy1 were seeing in those coins that actually are exceptional.

I also have a perverse love for pmd, my cabinet is full of mutilated monstrosities that strike terror into the hearts of many collectors.. but I know what I have and what I'm looking for now.
And I now have a decent eye for eye appeal as well, and don't hesitate to pounce.
Cuz I started paying attention to what the smart guys here were saying, and they're still passing it out for free!
Take it or leave it. 😂

Why should he reeducate his sense of beauty? As long as he isn't paying a huge toning premium, he can buy coins that make him happy that other people don't want. Seems like a win-win to me.

$7 is hardly a huge premium (in absolute terms) when the silver value is $4+. To Freddue's point, I'm not sure what dealer would sell this a anything other than bullion. But seems like everyone was happy here.

One of the other reasons why I snagged it. Only a $2+ loss, sounded great.
Sure, I get the appearance of the darkness isn't for everyone. I too, shy away from dark coins. However,
It is that fantastic displays of the beautiful Rainbows on both Quarters is what sparked my eye!
    Thanks guys.

You can spend your money however you want however when you create a thread asking our opinion you are gonna get it.😂🤣

Bottom line is you like the coins and didn't mind paying the premium. I understand. Enjoy!😎

What I find appealing about the second 63 is the obverse crescent moon 🌕 effect. Albeit the toning may be a tad dark/spotted.

P.S. the 1963 has zero rainbow toning.

If you enjoy what you buy you are absolutely correct, beauty is in the of the beholder. However, take into consideration that when that time to sell comes, will your investments pay off or will you end up taking a huge hit?
