BIE stages - update to Cohen BA110-BA123
I am continuing with my attribution of many BIEs I put aside over the years, mostly 1955-S. My last thread showed a "Pre-BIE" that I call BA905, which is an earlier die stage of Cohen B906 just before the full BIE chipped-out. See that thread here:

My next attribution was to be BA110/111, but I found a small tube that said "early stage of BA117?", so it got me looking through both the BA110/111 sequence and the BA114/117/119/121/123 sequence. Indeed Cohen's drawings appeared to show that the BA110/111 could be earlier stages of BA114...123. Upon closer inspection I found that BA114 through BA123 are from the** same obverse die** as BA110/111, in progressively later die states. So my note was correct, and instead of 2-stage BA110...111 and 5-stage BA117...123 sequences, what we really have is a 7-stage BA110...123 sequence.
I have examples of BA110, 111, 117, 119, and 123, and took pics around the BIE and Date/MM for each of these. Here are the pics:

I like progressive die varieties, it's always so interesting.

Thanks!
I put them into a couple of animated gifs showing the progressions, see below. Give them some time to load, they are large files...

Fantastic photography. Thanks so much for posting!

Great photography. While BIE coins have little value they are still cool. Seeing the progression is great.
Here is a less common IIB coin with very inferior photography. A less common break on this one.

What date/MM is that one?

I will have to see if I can pull it out and check. I took that photo in 2004 according to the image properties. It is in a box with a few thousand Lincoln errors and die issues. I'll shoot you a PM when I can dig it out.
Looking into some coins I put aside a decade ago I found some examples of a die stage just before Cohen's 1955-S BA110. I'll call this one BA109. The BA110 has a die chip on each of the B and E, and a die chip at the tip of the right wheat ear. This new stage has only the die chip on the E, and no chip in the right wheat ear. Below is a pic showing what the BA109 looks like, followed by BA110.
I have some others to look through, possibly slightly earlier than BA109. These others have some severe issues on the reverse, showing a sequence that must have ended in a Cud. I need to review if the Cud exists, and then take pics to ensure these are from the same obverse die. If so, then I can show at least 3 separate reverse dies were used for this obverse die, but I still need to shoot them to make sure.
