Before I show the reverse of this coin can you tell me if you think this coin is a 62 or AU58 or somewhere in between

I would have guessed lower than AU58, so it appears from what you have written I am already wrong.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
I'm more on the 58 side of 62.
Disclaimer: I'm not a dealer, trader, grader, investor or professional numismatist. I'm just a hobbyist. (To protect me but mostly you! 🤣 )
It's not graded so whatever you think it grades is okay with me.

Here's the reverse which looks nicer.

Definitely worn and not mint state, probably technical AU 53-55 details remaining.
As for the tone….that I’m not sure about.
Definitely an AU not MS.
Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc
I think it's suspect myself. It has nice colors but it very well could be AT. I really don't know. I think I paid $50 at a local show 6 months back. I just liked the look.

Ignoring the funny colors/tones, Liberty's left leg (obverse) looks significantly flattened. I'd guess the obverse is no better than 53 (and I suspect it's doomed to a "details" grade).
Ignoring the "toning" on the reverse, the reverse is at least a 58, and maybe MS.
So I'd guess that the coin is headed for an AU details grade, 53-55.
Of course, that's a pretty common date, so not worth the price (and hassle) of getting it slabbed, IMO.
Mark
Mark I agree with you.
I am posting this showing what suspect AT looks like. Some would call it end roll toning to deceive.
I wish it were genuine and I am intrigued as to how they get the colored rings around the coin..let it be a lesson to newer collectors.
I hope this helps someone.

I like the reverse a lot better than the obverse. AU 55 is my grade.

I agree with those that said no better than 53. Reverse is better than obverse, but still has wear.
XF-45 to AU-50 at best even with nicer reverse.
looks AU50ish to me
