Columbus did some pretty nasty stuff, I’m glad they changed it.

Yea he was basically the devil. It's funny how quickly history changes.
The substantial truth doctrine is an important defense in defamation law that allows individuals to avoid liability if the gist of their statement was true.
Happy "the post office is closed so my GC package won't be there tomorrow" Day
I sent in some coins for grading that were at the post office on Saturday and someone from PCGS picked it up on Saturday and it is showing received in the PCGS "Where's My Delivery?" query. Gotta get GC to work![:D :D](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
History of the exact events should be studied. What's devilish is
the propaganda against Columbus.
So you're on the side of Confederate soldiers AND a perpetrator of genocide? I won't even ask what other atrocities "need more study"
I would say Happy Monday but that seems an oxymoron.
What?

He found an island where natives were wearing gold plated jewelry. He enslaved the whole island and if you didn't produce enough gold he would cut your hand off and make you wear it as a necklace. The "propaganda" is all the flowery lies about Columbus in the history books. Legitimately he might have been the worst person to ever live.

I never knew Columbus was a Confederate soldier. Thanks for sharing that with us. This place can be quite educational at times.

For 500 years, he was a world hero, the last 20; it’s amazing how bad he became. A segment in Philadelphia demanded a Columbus statue that’s been on display for 200 years be covered up. It took a court order to fix the nonsense.
I gave them a call. Shipping overnight FedEx. Was a couple for a friend who will be helping me out at the Denver show. So needed them tomorrow. They are really Great folks at Great Collections.
Sir this is a coin forum.

Unhappy the post office is closed so I will not get the Navajo pottery I bought in Arizona last week.
Columbus Day is the only holiday that uses its Julian calendar date. (October 12)
Been around this forum much?

I think I know what you're saying, but there are others such as: July 4th, Labor Day being the first Monday of September, December 25th, December 31st, January 1st and Good Friday along with Easter Sunday.
A bit off the topic (sorry 1630boston), the true handcrafted Navajo items are quite beautiful. Where in AZ were you visiting when you bought your pottery? I still have many Navajo items from the time I lived on the res.

My wife said today she was told by some she worked with that Indigenous People were the homeless and we celebrate it.
Good lord, what have we raised in our schools!!!
This thread is a mess.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
She was probably thinking of "indigent" rather than "indigenous".

Call it whatever you want this is probably the most useless holiday of the entire year. And besides how the heck can it be called a holiday when it happens on a Monday?
Don’t answer that MFeld Im having a Monday.
It will always be Columbus Day to me.
This 'cancel culture' BS is getting real old.
This thread will not end well, IMHO.

Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.
Was it really destined for anything else though??

Yeah, especially for the Arawak people of Hispaniola, I bet they're real sick of it.
Anyone got a coin to share?
@coinbuf I was actually all over northern and eastern AZ and into NM I absolutely love it there, the climate, the people, the food etc.
This is a Navajo seed jar - purchased while I was there and had shipped home so I didn't have to pack it on the airlines. I live in the frigid NE of the country. Curiously it could be the seed of a whole new hobby as I love Navajo pottery.
With threads like these they sometimes open the door to cross the fine line between the coin standing alone and any other information. When a historical figure/event is represented on the piece it's difficult not to delve into the history of the figure. However positive or negative said history may be. After all, in many cases, coins do represent history.
Never said -wrote any such thing. As I recall though from my studies it was the GAR that invaded the south and raped and pillaged and slaughtered innocent civilians. Study the border war![](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/editor/qx/83kerkjdjxj1.jpeg)
If you think Lincoln went to war to liberate slaves, you are misinformed.
By the way, I carry plenty of coins w Abe’s mug on the obverse.
A beautiful jar, and a fun entrance to a new hobby. My grandfather owned a trading post in one of the small towns in northeast AZ, about 30ish miles from Window Rock. If your travels did not take you there Window Rock sits on the AZ/NM border south of Four Corners. Glad that you enjoyed your time in AZ and NM, it is a beautiful area with lots of history.

So to go along with your rejection of current history, and complaints about cancel culture, you now are offering southern revisionism? Northern aggression is a joke since the south fought the civil war for a year before the north joined. You seem to be raging at the current world, but sad for you being belligerent isn't the same as being right.
