Tukwila coin show report, October 2023

Must say I had a really good time this weekend at the Tukwila, WA, show!
Set up a table with Bochiman. There are few people I want to spend 3 days with behind a table and he's one of them! It was amazing watching him chat with collectors of all levels of expertise, newby or seasoned, connecting with them all in one way or another. There were several YN's by the table today that we both enjoyed.
Set up across the aisle from us was BidAsk - it was interesting to meet and get know him and see his current emphasis in the Dark Side. Great guy, lovely wife.
Airplanenut came by Friday and it was fun to see him again. He was skunked on the bourse. It was amusing to see him and other forum members ribbing each other!
Met SurfinxHI for the 1st time and I hope it's not the last! He had a great time, teasing Airplanenut about this, that and the other. Very funny gentleman, hope he comes back to every show!
Swampboy came by and was kind enough to bring some home made cookies. We enjoyed them all 3 days. Not sure if he found anything on the bourse or not.
2Windy2Fish was behind us. He always has a good selection of material. Enjoyed chatting with him and plan on getting together this spring for some fishing in the San Juan Islands!
Circam was at the table as well - chatted with Bochiman primarily so I didn't have a chance to talk with him.
PennyLady had her usual fine collection of small cents. I just hope the tables next to her like her music selections!
Had a great time chatting with a "YN" from down south, Ryan, who is very sharp and makes it to lots of local and national shows. He was a delight to talk with, though I suspect he cherry-picked a few pieces from me......
Also had a wonderful time talking with Greg who is an error collector and makes his living in public speaking and entertaining for company events - great guy and VERY entertaining. Seems to know everyone in the business and is now the archivist for CONECA.
AWOL was Seattle Slammer - what the heck!!?? Spending time with family - what's up with that??
I had a really strong show. I guess plastic is popular these days, but also did sell a nice coin and other material as well. It was definitely worth setting up and being there.
Bullion seemed weak - saw lots of overpriced pieces at "yesterday's" prices. The new reality hasn't set in. I did sell a few small pieces at current spot prices.
Overall a VERY good time. Thanks to the leaders and volunteers from the PNNA who put on a great show. Looking forward to the spring show already.
My only purchase was on a whim - something to display at the cabin and laugh about with friends - an outboard motor drink mixer.
Comments
I will refrain from posting a separate “Show Report “
An interesting show for sure! My second best PNNA show to date, spoke to Revick at West Coast Coin and he commented that it was his best PNNA ever, asked around and most dealers had the same opinion, however, there were a few that said it was not good at all….
Friday for me was nonstop from setup at 0800 until nearly closing with very brisk sales of graded material and raw…strangely i sold quite a few “Problem “: coins as well….i had a few pieces of gold with me and had zero interest all weekend. Saturday morning was busy from the start until about 1400 then quite slow, still good sales for the day tho! Typical show Sunday, a bit of wholesale and a few collectors…
I saw very little silver/bullion moving show wide…
Chatted with @Lakesammman , @yosclimber ,@swampboy , @botchiman @Omegaraptor …
Never had a chance to ask Charmy how her show went, perhaps she will chime in here…
Biggest disappointment for me was having so little time to get away from my table and look for new material…
As Tim mentioned above Kudos to the PNNA folks for hosting this show, they do an outstanding job!
Good report, thank you.
How many tables?
About 100-160 tables, depending on how you count; 84 dealers.

Sharing a table for 3 days, with, as I affectionately call him, "LakeSalmon"
, is always the highlight of the shows for me.
Heck, I even pay for that privilege....LOL
Seriously though, he's a great and knowledgeable, about coins and grading plastic and other things in life, guy to talk to. The wisdom he has for coins and plastic, and the teaching of them to both new and experienced collectors, is always inspiring.
The coins he brings are always top notch or, if not the coin, then the plastic is. I've drooled at many of the coins he has shared and brought to the shoes.
I used to do these shows as a customer, and enjoyed meeting up with folks like Lakesammmmmmmman, Russ (RIP), Ricko (RIP), SeattleSlammer, and some others, but, now that I am doing a lot less buying (personal collection), it is nice to have a place to sit and chat with collectors new and old.
CircCam (hope I spelled the handle right?) has stopped by the last few times and shown some awesome looking coins. Great guy too! Really enjoy talking to him about coins and more.
Had some great conversations with some parents of young children collecting and gave them some slabs (common, modern, coins, but something for the new collector) to start the young'uns out, as well as some raw coins (world coins from 18xx-194x and in circ condition). Was fun to see their eyes light up as they were really enjoying coins and collecting in general. Was also great to see some parents, including a couple moms, who were doing some collecting WITH their children, or just wanting to learn more so they coin help the kids along.
For the show traffic, it was busy Friday and then again on Saturday, early, but when it cleared out early, it really felt cleared out. Left a few hours early. Same for Sunday. Light, but spent most of the time talking to YNs and their parents, so time passed quickly.
Saw some big deals go down, did some small deals myself. Had some things that were given to me by family/friends (canadian and world) that I had no clue on so I just let some customers price things themselves. For ones that were collectors, I tried to take a little extra off the price as they seemed genuinely happy to get the coins so I didn't care much about the price.
Very enjoyable show.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Great reports and thanks for sharing!
I’ll make it- eventually!
