ICG grading moderns

I got a call from a local dealer yesterday who had someone walk in with some certified modern gold in ICG holders, but no serial numbers. Does anyone know why? I got a flyer that they're certifying moderns now for $12 a coin. I'd think of using them to screen out likely candidates for 70 coins, but then would want to run them through one of the top two as the market tends to be skeptical of "70" graded coins from Icg and Anacs.

You're right to be skeptical. While I'm sure some "perfect" 70 coins get graded by ICG and ANACS, expect most of them to cross at 69 and you'll be OK. Also bring a loupe and look for obvious defects. view the coin from at least 4 angles on each side.

I believe the special label HSN coins do not have serial numbers on the labels. Nothing I would be overly alarmed about.
I thought the way to screen coins with a grading service was to submit to pcgs first, then go to ngc with the “rejects”, and then possibly icg/anacs third (if value warrants additional grading fees)? I’ve had icg go very conservative on modern grades with me before, so be careful.
Since PCGS does offer a crossover service with most services, that would be a possible play; send them a group of "70" certified coins from ICG and Anacs with only cross at the same grade. If you only paid an economy submission fee there may be economic advantage. With ICG and Anacs, unless you have stellar images on a "money" graded coin, potential buyers may not be willing to take the chance.
In general, I see that ICG and even NGC 70 coins sell for PCGS 69 money, so not much to lose anyway if you buy them right.
