Has lightning struck twice?? 1916/16 ddo Buffalo nickel

I found one 2 years ago, and today going through a bag of no dates I believe I found another..... the date is pretty much gone and the coin is rough but i still believe it's a DDO.
What's your opinions?

Apply some Nic-A-Date and remove any question.

I see machine doubling on the profile and feathers. Compare to one of the Coinfacts images.
I vote legit 1916 DDO!
I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.
Could be. I'm not seeing the doubling on the third feather? I see the 6 has kinda made it through the wear. Id zoom in for details on that

Nope. No doubling on the small feather. I've got 2 just like it.
Also no doubling on the braid cords above the date.
Sorry, I’m not seeing the doubling of the ribbons or the feathers to match a ddo. Here is one I recently submitted for grading the received an AG03 grade. Yours does not match it.

I say sorry, no. The doubling is in the wrong direction and no doubling on the 3rd feather. Machine doubling only.
Looks like MD - you see it on the Indian's neck too

Yes. The upper loop of the second 6 is visible, just barely. First photo.

Definitely not
No.
I don't think so. As previously pointed out, no doubling on the stubby feather at the back of the neck, or the cords from the hair braid, which seem to be key PUPs on very worn examples. Keep looking!
So much doubt. Looks good to me, how much? Someone please show a machine-doubled one with top 2 feathers doubled, 3rd is weak, 6 doubled, neck doubled, and chin doubled.
If that's the case, why not make an offer?
Definitely NOPE

How about one that IS the DDO AND has machine doubling?
Gorgeous coin. One of the motivations for me to buy lottery tickets when the prize is over $1 billion.
Here is your homework - explain in one sentence why that cannot be a doubled "6" (Hint: just compare the OP photo to the actual DDO).
Nic-a-Date it and remove all doubt. Looks like an '18 to me.

No one said there was going to be homework...
Make that two sentences...
Does not look like one to me

No evidence of doubling on the inside feather.
Lack of doubling on the braid.
Sorry.

I ain’t seeing it.

Machine doubling this time.

Well... I was off on that one. Thanks for the pic!

I have no opinion on this coin. My personal preference in this case is a nick-o-dated coin over an unseeable date coin. I need to see it!! (The 1916/1916 in this case.)
What coin? The OP coin is not a DDO.
From a preservation perspective and a resale perspective, it would be silly to damage any coin of value (such as a 1916 5c DDO) with Nic-A-Date.
That is why I have no opinion on it
IF the date is not see-able on this particular variety, I pre-fer a nickodated coin over a non-seeable date, value non-withstanding. Personal preference only- others may want the unseeable date coin.
I would not mind paying less for a date I can see.
I'm simply clarifying for the benefit of new collectors that applying Nic-A-Date damages a coin and reduces its value.
