New addition to the "boxes of 20" type set - 1797 Large cent
I've been working with John at Silicon Valley Coins to make some pretty significant changes to my collection.
I gave him a rather difficult task, I'm looking for coins with a "look" to them.
I didn't just want a bunch of nice coins, I wanted nice coins with a particular look to them, but it's easier to show the coin than explain the look.
It has a very rich brown surface, a few tick marks but nothing too serious for a 225 year old cent!
I imagine this thing must have been in a collection since before the 1800s!

S-139, R1, guessing the grade on the holder to be VF35/XF40.
Nice early copper!
Adding for the OP - it's relatively easy to attribute, as there are two significant die scratches on the reverse. The fraction bar, to the right (which several other varieties also have), but also the left stem, where the scratch extends almost to the "U".
Nice coin! DB's are my favorite large cents, style 1 hair in particular.
A beauty for sure, I like 👍
That one's got a great look. I especially like the way that her eyebrow was modified by a lucky little nick, it gives her such a modern style!
