Two MS69 LA Quarters

I noticed 2 2002-P LA MS69 quarters have been graded. Sorry if this has already been posted.

It just occurred to me. Out of the dozen or so MS69 State quarters PCGS has certified, I've never seen a scan offered on any of them? I wonder why.
I'm sure the coins exist- no doubt, I just wonder if the appeal and alure would be shattered if one of these was actually seen via a photo or scan.

Have any of these been offered on Teletrade or E-Bay, or has it all been private transactions?

  • Who would want to post a scan? Board members would tear it to pieces. Remember the MS-69 Morgan posts?

  • I've never seen any of the 69's in a public auction. Note, with the OH and TN 69's, the 2002 total is the same as the 2001 total --- 4 each year. And then there's also a 99-P CT that I hadn't noticed before. Is it new also? I think I recall wondercoin saying that he had handled at least one of the NY 69's. Have you handled any of the others, Mitch? Are they all real?

The CT has been up there for a while, even after other problems were fixed. I think wondercoin has handled at least one of the New Yorks and either the NC or VT.

Will be interesting to see if these stay for a few weeks.

Seems like a LOT of 2002 68's so far. I think more 69's are likely

Is there a chance, ever, of a MS70?

A chance, yes, but I think it is extremely remote unless the coin is special handled from striking or PCGS' grading standards loosen.

Pete: I handled the first (4) MS69 coins graded (basically all of the 2001 MS69 coins). The quality was fine on the coins and, in fact, to this day, I have seen only a handful of state quarters that also had a shot to make the MS69 grade in my opinion.

In general, there are MANY reasons to not post scans on coins. In the case of state quarters, imho, "pirating" serial numbers may be close to the top of the list.

How about a scan/photo of the COIN and not the HOLDER. That should eliminate any fears someone would steal the insert #.

Second suggestion: a small, white stripe over the insert numbers. I've seen that technic used on eBay auctions.

I concur with Braddick. Just hide the serial number, and you'll be fine. We just want to see these coins, that people are paying so much money for.image
