Is this natural or artificial toning? What say you? I have a really hard time telling them apart, AT from NT that is.
Would I be making a mistake to add this to my buffalo set?

Looks NT to me. NGC thought so as well. Its a beautiful nickel by the way. Hope it works out!
Looks perfectly fine.
It's market acceptable.
It may have spent many years in a Wayte Raymond album ... or been treated by a true AT expert. We will never know but I suspect the market will not care and will love the coin.
Looks like old album toning to me, the colors seem right to me also.
It looks natural to me. What caused you to question it?

Comparing to NGC photos I'd say the seller photos are enhanced. Probably still a great looking nickel though.

That and the mysterious prong color change from stark white to off white.

That’s what happens when you do a composite shot and the exposures don’t match.
Coin Photographer.
But how do we know which image is more accurate?

@FlyingAl
Right but the amount of "adjusting" that one has to do to go from how the coin looks in the NGC photos to the ones in OP?
I don't know, it just doesn't feel right to me.
I don't know but I would trust the photos that don't have a financial incentive to make the colors "pop" more than ones that do. NGC slab shots are usually pretty decent.
Like I said it's probably a really nice coin, but I would not expect it to look like the seller photos.
Maybe I am just being overly cynical this morning...

@BUFFNIXX what kind of premium is being asked for this coin?

Your point is certainly reasonable and prudent. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that NGC’s images are more accurate. Here’s a link to the listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/266415420009?hash=item3e0798b269:g:utEAAOSwLShlBw3e&amdata=enc:AQAIAAAA0GbX//UMPTdMZIAVFq1yR1WmztWXPtwOGpneLtILD/BVbzyAXZBFkWhdbDNvYgRz26wVxoMTn2fEfUx6xj5aiAZJ3K/vmV+ILi9KMz7zFS0eg373nYrKKeyYTwrWJZf+v+oHNbuGTGvPi5XI+40FlCflcuslX3jjbckFQ1GShe2IjGsWeWdorrctWBJRJVxlJii0Y3t3h8bgwyULNfT+ttD3TCeKuzw0sHnnFeW9DEq+tdNg2f1Xl46IQy1/w3LkKjFAIfUObzGo6QMoc9T/l+Y=|tkp:Bk9SR6Kmu4bXYg

Ouch, that is not a small premium.

It looks like Target Toning, and I believe the toning is genuine.

Looks way different than NGC photo.
Got this off @JimTyler i think the toning on yours is actually natural and NGC which I find to be pretty good at detecting AT vs NT is correct!!
Depending on the premium, I would grab it personally.
The premium is about $1000 over a standard MS66...

As others said, the colors may be enhanced in the pic we see in the thread. I have an MS 67 38 D buff with gold rims and ice blue centers. Different lighting could give the centers on my coin a purplish hue.
There is little doubt that the sellers' photos are showing the coin in the very best possible way. It may be possible to replicate how it looks in the auction photos with enough intense light, but I would be surprised if the in hand look is not rather dark and dull under normal lighting.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I would want a second opinion.
I agree with you. It’s a nice market acceptable toner but the photos are at least a bit optimistic.
