Acid job? 2001 Washington found in change

I am leaning towards the acid job, but the rims on the obverse still showing color are throwing me. Thoughts?

    Not an acid job.
Either stained or toned, hard to tell from a picture.

I don't think it's toned, however I could be wrong. The darker color is copper colored with a lot of green gunk on it.

Just so I understand your thinking: Do you believe that, however this coin ended up like this, it was done by someone to intentionally alter it??

Just another environmentally damaged clad quarter. Who knows how?

More curiosity than anything else. I am pretty sure it is PMD, just getting thoughts.

    Maybe a metal detecting dig?
Note: if it is looks like there were other coins with it, fwiw

Yeah...never thought about that. I just thought it was an interesting coin and wanted thoughts on whether folks thought it was an acid job or other ideas. It will likely end up in my box of oddities.

  • Yeah, looks like environmental to me, and not natural with regards to toning. The metal detecting theory sounds quite plausible from the images I see unfortunately.

    It's absolutely environmental damage.
