Straight graded. I bet it could soak up water. Someone got a gift.

And poor @joeykoins sends in some unc pennies and has them called QC.
Type collector, mainly into Seated. -formerly Ownerofawheatiehorde. Good BST transactions with: mirabela, OKCC, MICHAELDIXON, Gerard
I'm surprised it straight graded.

Aside from the staining problem, the coin is overgraded as a VG8. It is, at best, a G6.
Not only do I have zero problem with a straight grade for that coin, I'd wager it easily looks a LOT better than 90% of '71-CC's at that grade level.
These are the other 71-cc's out there that I'm aware of.
VG details because of the obv scratch.
VG details environmental damage.
G6 straight graded.
The G6 coin with the sticker is an AG3 by my standards. The reverse rim is too far gone to justify a G4 grade, let alone a G6.
I agree, not a 6 (but it has a bean lol). I'd grade it G4 though since the obv has a full rim. Early CC's tend to have reverse weakness like that.
Still stand by my original assessment, thanks for showing those examples! I'd take of the group you posted, either the original coin or the CAC example, depending on which mattered more to me, the darkish appearance of the first, or the wear/lack of detail remaining on the lower reverse of the CAC example.
Yeah that first coin isn't bad even with the scratch.
My 1871-cc Quarter was really ugly. The reverse was worse. The dime and the dollar are better.
Cool set! I like that dollar!
I'll take the ANACS for $500 Vanna ...
The quarter was $1750 about 10 years ago. The seller bought it back for $2250 five years later. The reverse has some major scratches.
I would never call that coin Details, especially at that grade level. It looks stained, not corroded, so the “soak up water” comment doesn’t make sense. I would call the three Details-graded coins in this thread Details, they all have major issues.

I guarantee it's porosity, which is quite common on 1870-73 Carson City silver coins.
Okay, then I'll take the dollar.

Crepidodera, congrats on owning that really nice example! I don't have one at all. Very sweet coin you've shared!
@Crepidodera Awesome 71-cc!
Thanks.
