sonics resign jerome james (no name but this guy has ups), spree not on the block, vin to boston?, e

NOT TRADING SPREE
Today’s New York Daily News offered that the Knicks had entertained talks with the Atlanta Hawks about a swap that would land Latrell Sprewell in Atlanta. The gist of the report indicates the Knicks are trying to swing a three-way deal with either Cleveland or Minnesota, offering Spree as the bait. Knicks sources in a late day conversation do not deny the Knicks are shopping for a serious guard, and Andre Miller is of interest to the Knicks, but labeled moving Spree as a last option, not the first. Spree’s name has been mentioned. There currently is not a deal on the table with his name on it. The Knicks only active trade discussions revolve around a sign and trade deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves for Rasho Nesterovic.

VIN TO BOSTON?
Its been reported all over the place so obviously something is working here, but rumor has it the Sonics and Celtics may be close to a deal that sends Vin Baker to Boston, in exchange for Vitaly Potapenko and Kenny Anderson. The only wrinkle here is what’s happened in the last 24 hours. The Sonics inked their third center Jerome James to a 3-year deal, so where would they put Vitaly (and his remaining $17 million)? It makes sense they would move Baker to create the room long term to re-sign Rashard Lewis, and Anderson’s ending deal would clear some space, but on the other coast adding Baker’s deal seems to go against everything the Celtics have said up to this point about staying flexible and fiscally responsible. Baker’s agent is thrilled with the idea but says nothing is pending, but added moving Baker east would likely be the best thing for him; Celtics fans see that Baker could help if Rodney Rogers is lost to free agency, but Baker’s remaining $56.25 million in guaranteed money seems like a real gamble for a club preaching responsibility. Agreed the Celtics need to replace Roger’s if they do indeed losing him. Baker just doesn’t seem like a good fit. Sonics sources had no comment and Celtic sources could not confirm or deny this trade rumor. Meaning something is in play.

LAMAR ODOM Wonder why Lamar Odom’s name is floating around the Rumor Mill? Clippers sources say Lamar may have asked for a maximum contract extension. If Elton Brand wants max (and was turned down) and now Lamar wants max, its not a surprise to hear the Clippers entertaining talks. Anyone who’s followed the Clippers knows they will likely wait until the last moment to make a move, but it seems Lamar may have put himself on the market…

WALLY SZCZERBIAK Like Odom above, Wally’s name has been floated around, and its tied directly to his agents demands of a Maximum extension. The cash strapped Wolves may look at Wally as the easy way to re-tool. Kevin McHale continues to deny interest in trading Wally, but even this week Wally’s father said he gets the feeling the Wolves are shopping his son…

ON DECK: Wrinkles have surfaced in the talks with the 76ers and Greg Buckner, but both sides are still talking and a deal could happen any time… Scott Williams appears close to a deal in Phoenix, despite reports that he was close to a deal in Milwaukee… and the Nets are also rumored to have tendered a $1.4 million offer to Chris Childs.

  • Clips should move Odom while they can, that druggie is going nowhere -- he'll never max out his potential. If they can package hima nd Wilcox and/por Maggette and bring in Miller, they should do it.

Baker was actually a legit player for the Bucks, he just got his a$$ whooped in the west. I could see him being successful in Boston, but what I can't understand is, if Boston can't afford to throw some cash Rodney Rogers' way, how inthe heck can they afford to pay Baker?

  • yeah man..that is weird that they can't pay rodney rogers.

  • They feel the need to mess with successs...which I hate. Just resign your guys and amke another go at it, instead of having to teach fat blob vin baker your system.
