Anybody Have a CAC Slab Yet ? ?

OnastoneOnastone Posts: 4,015 ✭✭✭✭✭

Looking at the new 2024 Red Book and finding a CAC ad right away on the first page...

So does that mean you get your coin graded and green beaned at the same time?? Looks like in their samples there is a CAC sticker maybe enclosed in the slab's label. Does anybody have a graded CAC yet? I went to their site and was greeted with a big pop-up that stated: "CAC is not currently accepting new members (submitters). We will make an announcement when new memberships are available."

The coin will automatically bean at the grade on the label. It's God's will and JA's as well.

Not a sticker like is placed on a PCGS or NGC slab, that is printed on/Intigral to the label. JA was going to use a sticker at first but concern over possible out gassing of the sticker glue resulted in the bean being printed on the label.

Currently only the "investors" in CACG can submit coins for grading. It is rumored that maybe later this month or next current CAC members will be allowed to submit.

I did look at a couple existing threads, but just came up with more questions...and was mostly wondering if anyone had one of these yet.

Other than different information on the label there is no difference in the look between a sample slab and a regular graded coin.

It is taking a while for CACG to receive the necessary slabs with the correct sized openings for the various denominations as they are manufactured in USA.

Great looking Civil War date that looks under graded.

The grade of XF-40+ made me giggle. Don't see that often. I imagine someone trying to get a PO-1 and CACG gives them a PO-1+.

Here’s one that crossed from a 66RB to a 66+RB. Based on CACG standards recognizing pluses, they say this coin is solid as a 66+RB. While I’m thrilled with the grade, at least in this case, their slab photos could use some tweaking. I’m sure with just a little time they’ll get this down pat. Shown below the CACG photos is a prior photo.

Wow. Great looking coin Steve. While the plus grade and new Cac holder look to be where the future is headed, I still prefer the look and accuracy of the PCGS holder along with its stickered green bean and Rick Snow’s Eagle Eye photo seal. Just my humble opinion.

Add a griff for the trifecta! Kidding aside, I also think it was nicer before the CACG slab and auto-bean.

Wait for it………………………………………… it’s exactly the same.

Thank you. There's serious debate (and in my opinion, Merit) to the subjective thought that CACG will be more "accurate" than PCGS. Separately, this CACG holder is now in Rick Snow's hands to get his Eagle Eye Photo Seal automatically reapplied (like CAC stickering, he ignores plus grades). Since this coin is a dupe from the higher graded one in my set (MS66+RD, double stickered), he'll be selling this coin for me on his website in a couple of days or so.

I get your point but if people collected coins, we wouldn't even be talking about griffs and beans.

I have a sample slab that I got at the ANA.
Unless I see something ‘special’; I’m going to stick to PCGS and NGC, for right now. I am interested to see if the CACG coins become widely popular or not.

No but have decided the pct of MV for my bid / offer on CACG material (compatible w my biz model) from the CPG RCM Review magazine for auc or if they walkup to my table.

I did bid $55 on CACG 70 ASE but lost. I can buy Pcgs / NGC around that via eBay bin or from wholesaler at show. Bottom line - if not a deal for me not a buyer. The market really tight nowadays. So due to current market conditions I may have to taper off some down the road….

Currently CACG material 482 vs 140,000 Pcgs material on eBay. So in reality a moot issue for me in terms of the big picture.

A perfect example of why one would cross a PCGS to a CACG

Yup, that's why I didn't see it, I searched for CAC and not CACG. My mistake. But it's a cool ad in the RedBook and look at how they cleverly made a cartoon mascot out of their logo.

Me too mostly, I did get the two new peace dollars in CACG mainly to satisfy my curiosity.

    I still prefer PCGS

I am really impressed that their prongs are less intrusive than the PCGS holder. Prongs truly kill the look of smaller coins like pennies and dimes. Otherwise I still prefer the overall look of the PCGS slab.

CoinWeek is having a giveaway this week with a prize of a CACG coin! Prize is another one of their Inaugural Sample quarters.

  • FWIW, I sent an email to CAC customer service, asking them to confirm the size of CAC slabs. Here is their response: "CAC Grading slabs have a width of 2.35" and length of 3.20" with a height of 0.40" inches. The CACG slabs do not comfortably fit in most competitor boxes, including PCGS boxes. However, CAC currently has a slab box in production that will be designed to accommodate CACG, PCGS, and NGC holders. We do not have a release date yet, but this slab box will be announced soon with purchase dates available."
