2000 Playoff Contenders Tom Brady Horror Story

Would someone please tell me how much a 2000 Playoff Contenders Tom Brady football card was valued at in 2004? I cannot remember how much I purchased it for back then, but I do remember purchasing it on eBay for half of its value. I no longer own it. Beckett and PSA both determined that it was trimmed when they examined it at a sports collectors convention in 2015. A dealer offered me $300 for it at the convention, so I sold it. The dealer knew that it was trimmed when he offered to purchase it. I obviously regret the sale now. Thanks in advance.

I sold a Brady 2000 Contenders PSA 9 around that time on ebay for around $350-375 if that helps? I remember that they were selling for around $400 at the time and my intent was to replace it with a BGS 9 because I had been collecting his better RCs in BGS slabs. I never replaced it and I don't even want to know what they're selling for now lol.

That helps. I am trying to remember if I purchased it for $50 or $100. It was valued at either $100 or $200 at the time. I did not have a lot of disposable income back then, so I always imagined that I paid $50 for it. I recently saw how much one in that condition sold for this year. That is the reason for my curiosity. Don’t worry, Erik. I won’t tell you how much it sold for. Thanks for the reply. I am hopeful that someone has an old Beckett magazine laying around from back then.

I paid around $275 for it just days before NE won their 2nd SB and IIRC it was listed in Beckett for around $300 at the time. I have some old football Becketts buried somewhere,I'll see if I can find one from around that time. I kept the ones with Brady on the cover and I'm pretty sure that they usually put him on the cover after winning a SB back then.

Thanks, Erik and Perk Dog. Erik, based on what you are saying, I probably paid $100 for it. I purchased it after the Patriots won their second Super Bowl. The seller was selling two at the time. Mine was listed as a Buy It Now. The other was listed for bidding at half of the Buy It Now price. I definitely did not pay $200. It is likely that I did not want to get into a bidding war, and I decided to just buy the card outright for $100. Please let me know if you find a 2004 Beckett magazine buried somewhere. Thanks again.

I am wondering if BGS and PSA said it was trimmed or minimum size? the 2000 contenders is notorious for coming directly out of packs smaller than standard. it was a common defect directly from the factory.

additionally, PSA authentic graded contenders of brady sell very consistently for 11-12k. that would be the grade for either a factory short or trimmed version. even altered they hold very high value.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

BGS determined that it was trimmed. They even indicated the specific location on top of the card. I was as doubtful as you, Craig. I asked PSA to take a look at it. They determined that it was definitely short, and would never receive a grade as a result. I was so upset, I just wanted to get rid of it. It was valued at $3000 at the time, so I figured an offer of ten percent of the value was fair. I still feel sick over it.

I might have been off a year on when I purchased it at that price, it might have been a few days before their 3rd SB win not 2nd. I won two auctions in the same night,a thursday, one was the Contenders PSA 9 and the other was Brady's SP Authentic BGS 9 for $250 and they both arrived the day after NE won the SB.

I didn't have any luck finding the old football Becketts. I did find an old binder with a ton of Jordan Magazines & Becketts in sleeves but god only knows what happened with my Brady binder. Sorry.

Thanks for searching for it, Erik. I was just thinking that the seller may not have been selling two cards at the time. It may have been the same card, with an opening bid of $50 and a Buy It Now for $100. That is more likely.
